The only USA/Canada game I was able to get tonight was the World University
Hockey Championship. Surprise! USA/Canada was the final game, and Canada won
5-4 in overtime. Could this possibly have been a rerun? I can't believe
there would be two world championship hockey games on the same night. Who's
winning the women's game?

A couple of quick questions. What type of skates did you have before
these kevlar skates, did you change the size of the skate when you
changed skates?
Different brand skates fit differently. Let me know the answer to these
questions, I might be able to help you with your problem.

I don't know about IIHF rules, but according to CHA rule # 53, a check from
behind can result in
a) 2 minutes and a game
or
b) 5 minutes and a game
or
c) a match penalty
Depending on the severity and circumstances

It sure doesn't seem fair, but I suspect that the restriction on the US NCAA
team was a result of American rules that deem CHL players to be
professional, and therefore non-gratuating US players might risk College
eligibility by playing a "pro" team.
I don't know this for sure, but it would be consistant with normal U.S.
eligibility requirements.
However, that still doesn't explain why Canadian graduated players would be
participating.

Subject: Bad officiating...
Message-ID:
Hi everyone,
Last weekend I went to Marlboro, MA to watch a friend of mine play in the
Postal Employees Hockey Tournament... It was a pretty big tournament the
place was mobbed; mostly guys teams but there were 6 womens' teams which drew
a lot of attention.
Anyway, I was watching my friends game, they were in the semifinal playing
against the Canadian Women's Postal team... At one point, the ref overlooked
a blatant holding penalty that directly resulted in a goal by the other team
making a close game, well, not so close... To top it off, he ended up
throwing her out of the game when she protested the goal to him. Meanwhile,
a huge crowd had gathered, most of them booing the refs call. Evidently, he
had reffed one too many games that day because he then refused to drop the
puck and continue the game until the bleachers were cleared... Yes, you
heard right, he insisted that the crowd be thrown out of the game. It
definitely was a first for me. Most of the spectators refused to leave even
when they sent rink security to remove them.
I know refereeing can be a thankless job but and even the BEST ref's can
sometimes make bad calls or let some infractions go but to let a crowd get
the best of you like that and to hold up a game, cross your arms and say,
"I'm not gonna put up with this." was the epitome of unprofessionalisim. He
should have ignored the crowd and continued the game. If they didn't like
his call, tough sh!%. He went on to stop the game 2 more times for no
apparent reason other than the crowd had once again, hurt his feelings... In
the end, the Canadian team won the game, which they would have anyway. They
just outplayed my friends team.
Well, that's my story... Thanks to those of you who sent in the scores for
the womens' championships and made those of us who couldn't be there or watch
the games on TV, not feel so left out. I'd love to watch the game if anyone
has it taped!

I was at the game last night, and could not believe my eyes. The lack of
consitancy on the part of the referee was a disgrace to anyone who wears
the stripes. As a fairly new official, I have always prided myself with
not criticizing the refs when they make a bad call since I know it is
impossible to always make the right one. Until you ref a game or two, you
cannot fully appreciate how hard it is.
However
Last night's officiating was the worst I have ever seen. Perhaps the
officials have the same problems as do the players. What I mean is, that
many countries who's hockey tradition is young and is developing, also
have officials that are you and just developing. If I were one of the
officials in last night's game, I think that I would want to crawl into a
hole for awhile until this cools off and then give hell to whoever
assigned me to do that game. The ref and linesmen at the game were just
not ready for that level of play.

The CIAU sent there best representatives to the World University Cup. It
should not matter what year of study the players are in. Matt Mullin may
only be in his second year of school, however, he is leaving after this
semester to play pro. Other Guelph Gryphons on the CIAU team included J.P.
Davis, Briane Thompson and Chris Clancy. All of whom are in the last year
of their respective programs.

Hey All,
Regarding the CCM Kevlars skates, I purchased a pair last August. For at
least 20 skates, my arches cramped, my toes felt jammed, they were very
painful! I stuck it out and now won't trade them in for anything. My
skating has become faster and I am much more agile on these skates. So, to
me the pain was worth it :) (Sick eh?)
I have two teammates that bought the same skate, and had the same problems.
One traded hers in right away for a pair of Baurer 2000, and the other
stuck it out like me and now loves her CCM's as well.
