I have been an observer of women's hockey for several years, and I am
very happy that it has come of age. I will send some comments to Steve
Buffery in Toronto, it is evident he has not gotten away from his desk
to watch the women play, he has only read his fax's. I am a strong
supporter of women's hockey, in fact, the T-shirt I have been wearing
today, is from the 1995 IIHF women's hockey tournament, held in San
Jose, CA.
I am really looking forward to watching the competition in Nagano!

I live in New York City, and therefore can get NO INFO on the women's
championship that's going on this weekend. Does anyone know what time the
US/Canada game is? Is it being broadcast? Any chance I'd be able to pick it
up here? HELP!

Marguritaz, US-canada is at 8p EDT. But my friends back in NYC tell me they
had no luck locating the WWC on either DirectTV or even trying a sports bar's
cable connections. Looks bad for you, I'm afraid. But watch the list: people
here have been really good about posting results and I'll try to chime in if
I have a free moment tonight.

Amendment: I am told here the games are being telecast live ONLY by TSN cable
channel. If you know a place that gets it via satellite (and in New York, I
don't), that's where you'll find it. Otherwise, you will probably only find
highlights on major sports outlets, or maybe on all the news if the USA wins.
Anyway, I don't see any US broadcasters here.

I was wondering if anyone else has the CCM Kevlar skates. I have had them
for about one year, and I am still getting cramps in my feet from them. Does
anyone else have this problem?

Sweden now has the fifth seed for the Olympics.
For those of you who've heard the reports that Russia's program would be
dismantled if they didn't qualify, both the coach and assistant coach said
today and yesterday that it's a good possibility, but isn't certain.

Mine are the TACK 752's; I don't know if CCM makes any other type of
Kevlar skates. I have had them about a year and love them. They were
comfortable from the moment I put them on. I have terrible feet. My
arches are extremely high, and my sole is too wide, compared to my
heels. My ankles are destroyed; no elasticity left. I wear orthotics,
except when I skate. My TACKs are the greatest, but maybe not if you
have normal feet. I have them sized pretty small and wear one pair of
thin cotton/polyester socks.

Canada leads the USA 1 to 0 at the end of the first period. Goal scored by
Drolet from Wilson and Diduck.
Diduck dumped the puck behind the net, Wilson picked it up and threw it out in
front to Drolet who was alone. Whitten was surprised to find anyone in front. It
was a power play goal and players were caught coming from the bench. The goal
was at the 19:36 mark of the first period.
Finland beat China in the Bronze 3 - 0.

Canada scores its second power play goal at 9:21. Point shot from Campbell
tipped into net by James. Might have been a Brett Hull height world cup tip-in.

Was that Angela James that scored? I haven't seen her play (I live in NYC,
we don't get any women's hockey here on TV), but I read about her in "On the
Edge: Women Making Hockey History." Is Hayley Wickenheiser playing? Who
else? (If you haven't read that book, it's excellent!)
