Hi, everybody!
The March 31 issue of Go, girl! Mag is on-line at http://www.gogirlmag.com
This is a special issue about the American AIDS Rides that will take
place all around the country this summer. About 12,000 are expected to
participant in 10 host cities; it's pretty incredible. You can read the
diary of a woman who did the ride last year, and learn all about the five
AIDS Rides -- just in case you want to give it a try.
Hope all is well "on the ice,"

Don,
Where is Canada in this group? Not having the breakdown of the periods, I
can't tell. China also looks strong. Is this a preview of Nagano, or will
the other teams be able to retool? There are some really lopsided scores.
Thanks for the reporting. Ain't Kitchener a fun town?
Debbie

Thursday's games should prove to be extremely interesting.
USA and Finland will be playing to avoid Canada in the Semi-finals
and Sweden and Norway will be playing for their Olympic dreams.
These should be terrific games. USA is now ahead of Finland by 2
goals based on their win 7-0 over Norway while Finland beat Sweden
5-0. Each of these teams will be trying to score as many goals as
possible to ensure their first place position in the B pool. On the
other hand with the tie between Norway and Sweden this puts each of them
in the position of being eliminated from the Olympics based on the
chance of losing by more goals than the other team.
In the USA-Finland game the USA was up 3 to 1 in the third period.
For most of the game the Americans sent in the centres on the
forecheck and flushed out the Finns from behind their own net. This
caused a great deal of difficulty for them. However late in the game
the Americans went to a softer trap and allowed the Finns to come out
from behind their own net on their own pace. After watching the
exhibition game against Canada it is apparent they were expecting the
trap because they skate one of their forwards along the far blueline
and this is how they were able to get the second goal. The tying goal
was in the last four minutes by Sari Krooks. There was a turnover in
neutral ice and she took it in along the boards with one defenseman
back. I think she surprised Whitten with a shot early from just
inside the top of the circle which beat her high on the short side.
The Finns obviously played the rest of the game for the tie.
The Russians did not get a shot on net in the first period. Not much
else needs to be said about the game other than they ended up with 7
shots, scoring on a power play late in the third period.
The Chinese are very strong on their skates. They play with great
discipline and don't give the puck away easily in their own end. They
play a style which doesn't take chances in their own end and look to
make the turnover in the other team's end. They have great hands and
can put the puck in the net on breakaways. Their only weakness is the
abiltiy to create the offensive play but are quite willing to wait
for your mistake to create the opportunity for them. They stand up
forwards trying to enter the offensive zone and penalty kill well
should they get penalized for doing it. The Thursday game between
Canada and China should be quite interesting and a good indication of
what might be. A China-Finland gold medal game?
Bye for now its a day off.

Has anyone attended a RinkSport Camp for Sr. Women? I'm looking for a good
camp to go to this summer. I really liked the Turcotte Stickhandling...but
unfortunately, they don't offer classes for the over 20 group. Comments,
Suggestions? Thanks!
