You should play for Assabet Valley Hockey in Massachusetts, to my
knowledge they have two or three senior teams.
Good luck!

Subject: new club team
Message-ID:
Hi Everyone.
I would like to announce the existence of a new women's ice hockey club, now
in their second year, at Iowa State University. They are interested in
scheduling games with anyone who can travel to Ames, IA. They will travel
within 5 to 6 hours at the most at this time. Due to it being a new club,
travel funds are very hard to come by this year, so if you can come to Ames
to play them it would be great.
They are a "C" level club, maybe low "B", with several novice players and a
few who have played three years. This year they are interested in playing
other novice teams in the Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois areas. Hopefully
with more funding next year they can travel further.
If your team in interested in playing Iowa State's Women's Ice Hockey Club,
please contact Sue Marino and Wendy Martling at 515-292-0081, email
addresses: email@hidden and email@hidden or joan263415.
Thanks.

Regarding the Girls Flames hockey club, try calling Center Ice in Glen Ellyn,
IL area code 630. That where the boys flames play out of and I assume, also
the girls.

Regarding the question on endurance exercises that will help in hockey, I
believe any areobic(sp?) activity will help. I bike every weekend (25+
miles) and train on my 'rider', which in my case is a NordicTrack CTX 6000
and I have been able to tell the difference since I started. I also do Tae
Kwon Do regularly, which really helps my balance. Doing some weight lifting
will help too.
I've also started wearing a 'Breath Right' nose patch, it has helped me a
lot.

Initally, Zoe asked about about an off-ice conditioning program for girls
ages 13 to 18 years old. She's four times a week on the ice, thereof 2 games.
I don't know, for how many additonal practices she could call up her team to
a particular place, i assume there is no more time for such a thing, that's
why she's asking for a program, to do on their own.
There were some recent replys, who suggested working in the stamina-range on
the workouts. This is not entirely wrong, but most likley calls up problems
in full recovery, because during an icehockey-game a lot of the encumbrance
lies in the stamina-range. And to recover FULL from a two-game weekend you
need at least 2-3 days, assuming a good acyclic endurance!
This four times on ice a week are for sure enough for endurance and more
than enough for stamina!
But if you think, they should work on something beyond hockey-skills, on
their own,
what about power? You can never have enough of that, for hockey! You could
work together with a fitness studio and let them work out a program with the
focus primary on the hole body and secondary on the legs. But be carefull,
you can do that only with people in the post puberal phase, the younger
should work with there own body-weight only!
My team works year around one ore two times a week on power and there is
still a big progress in speed and starting!
Hope this helps a bit,
regards, Nick

Just work regularly with an endurance sport (running, biking), this means at
least two times a week for more than 30 minutes with a speed you can hold
for the hole exercice.
But for me, the most prefered thing would be, doing the endurance, as
described above, on the inline-skates! Why? First, it is specific, that
means you work with your leg-muscles in the same range as in icehockey.
Second, The psychology, the very most icehockey-players like it more than
running and biking! And last but not least, you can work at the same time on
the skating skills (staying low!).
Hope this helps a bit.
regards, Nick
