I have a friend who recently moved to CT and is looking for more
information on what's available to her. I think the closest senior women's
team to her is the Hickory Hills team in Ketonah, NY. Does anyone have any
more information on Hickory Hills, or other teams in CT?

Can anyone send me a conditioning program (off ice) appropriate for girls
ages 13 to 18 years old? You can email it to me or mail it to me at:

I am an assistant coach for the Midget Rep Team out of Seattle Jr. Hockey
called, the NW Admirals. We have two, hour-long ice sheets per week (on
Thursdays and Fridays) and have two games on the weekends. We are looking
for a program that the players can do on their own for stamina, strength,
agility and speed.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Zoe,
I think your players in general better invest there time in working on their
technical skills, especially skating. They can do that on public skating or
on inline skates.
Maybe this sounds a little tough, but i have very good experience with investing
the most time on the technical side.

hope this helps a bit.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone out there has a contact
with someone from the women's team at Amherst College.
We've been trying to get in touch with them to schedule
a game or two with them. We've been calling someone named
Suzanne but noone has gotten back to us yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi, I'm on the Penn women's club team in Philadelphia and we would likely
be interested in playing you. You can reach our captain/scheduler at
email@hidden or (215)222-3015, her name is Nicole. There is also
another women's team here, the Philadelphia Freeze, but I don't have a
contact for them. Hope this helps,

I disagree with Nick's response to Zoe's request for an off-ice training
program for 13-18 year olds.

While on-ice workouts are clearly the best way to improve your game, ice
time isn't always available. Street hockey and roller hockey are the next
closest alternatives for conditioning and skills training, but beyond
that, there's always running, plyometrics, and weight lifting. Simply
doing regular runs, sit-ups and push-ups can make a big difference in
stamina and strength. As for a specific program, I don't know what would
be appropriate for that age level or level of competition. If you're
committed to *serious* off-ice training, you might want to talk with a
professional trainer.

Also, an easy way to work on stick handling at home is to use a golf ball
and just stick handle indoors for 5-10 minutes a day -- you can even do it
while watching TV.

Good Luck.

Zoe- I am also interested in an appropriate conditioning program for
adolescent females. I asked a friend who is a really athletic physical
therapist if there was anything appropriate, especially for a girl who is
really tight through the back and hamstrings. I was surprised when she
said just leave her alone for a while and see what happens as she gets a
little older. When I see what figure skaters and goalies do, I'm not so
sure I buy that one. The local lacrosse and soccer players do a lot of
stretching and sprinting. Are we pushing or not pushing enough. Can't
wait to see what everyone else is doing.

Debbie
