There have been a couple of requests for info on college hockey lately and
I just wanted to offer my help to anyone with specific questions about Div
1 hockey. I am currently a senior playing for Cornell University and I
would be happy to answer any questions on Div 1/Ivy League play, or on
hockey at Cornell.
Good luck to everyone with the upcoming season.

>I think that this was a bad decision and in poor taste and 99% chance it
was a man's idea. However, I believe the decision was intended to be a
proud "we-got-chicks-in-our-arena-aren't-we-cool" sort of twisted
complimentary way. The song is by Motley Crue and the video portrays a bunch
of "perfect" women in little clothing - if people truly believe we all look
like that under our unis, I'd say "hey thanks, and by the way, I play hockey
too!"

Michelle:
You don't hear them playing the best of the Chippendales when the Mites on
Ice play in Philly. I also don't think that its a friendly undressing that
is going on. When I see my young daughter get checked because she is a
girl, I can't help but resent the stupidity of these people who play
obscene music just because a woman takes the ice. Lets pay off the arenas
to give us a rousing chorus of "Take it off, take it all off" when Eric
Lindros or Wayne Gretsky take the ice and see how long that lasts. This is
sport, not a forum for degredation.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a song to play during an
intermission scrimmage that wouldn't degrade women, yet get the crowd
excited? I'm sure the music coordinator(s) at the arena(s) would
appreciate the help in finding a more appropriate song.

Although the song may have seemed demeaning, I doubt that those
were the intentions of the music coordinators. They were probably just
excited to have found a song about girls and/or women.

Someone asked for a good song to play. A good rock "gender neutral" song
that would probably work would be "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen. If you
listen to it, it could probably be adapted to any hockey game.
On the same subject, a local channel in Cleveland did a story on our women's
team last year. They interviewed several of us, and included practice
footage. It was well done, except in the beginning and end, when they
wrapped the piece with music... which was "Girls Just Want To Have Fun."
Sort of took the seriousness out of the piece.
On the other hand. The Plain Dealer, Cleveland's newspaper, did a large
feature on us last week. The article was pretty good, but seemed to focus on
how aggressive we were as a group. (So what if we got into a fistfight with
the Michigan Tornadoes last year...) I am not sure that the media in
general, certainly not in Cleveland, know how to treat an all women's adult
hockey team.

Even though I don't agree with the selection of the song, forget about
all the right songs and wrong songs and who picked them out... this
probably points out something that I have been saying all along: in
general people just don't take girls hockey seriously yet.

There's a song by a country western singer, can't remeber his name, about
wanting to drive the Zamboni. They play it at a lot of hockey games,
professional and collegiate. Should be fairly easy to get a copy. Also
there's a song by Gary Glitter that's common. You'd know it if you heard
it. It's called Rock and Roll 1969 or something like that.

Yeah, that was brought up in the locker room the other day....:) But only
to protect Ohio State as a couple of my teammates keep getting you and them
confused....
First game of the season is Sunday!
Good luck to us and everyone else with a game this weekend!
