I was also at the game, but I didn't win anything. To summarize how long the
game was, after the game we met a fan who related the following story:

He left during the first overtime to pick up his kids. He took them home and
made them dinner. While he was eating he turned on the radio and discovered
the game was still on. He then returned to see the end of the fourth
overtime and the game winner.

Among the unheralded accomplishments were that this was also probably the
first game in women's hockey history were the concession stand ran out of
food, the souvenior stand sold out and the players hoped to get hit so they
could lie down.

If you get to watch a tape of the game you can truly appreciate how far
women's hockey has come. The players looked good on television. Contrary to
popular belief there are no ankle benders. If you like European style
hockey, you will truly enjoy women's hockey.

Of course I was pleased with the result, but I think that the publicity that
this game has received is not only good for the women but any attention to
hockey in other parts of the country is good for the game.

The women's GB team flew off to Slovakia for the Pool B European Championships
yeasterday. Before they went they had what was supposed to be an easy,
confidence boosting game against a so called England team on Sunday. Well I
thought I'd go along and have a look...

Well, considering this England team had never trained together; and there were
some quite obvious absences of players who in my opinion should be there, they
did rather well. Having probably equal possession of the puck (certainly over
the first two periods) the game was by no means one sided as it was supposed to
be. With two periods gone and still no score, it was just a 5 minute lapse in
the third that allowed the GB team to score 3 goals (Lisa Davis, Debbie Palmer &
Lyndsey Emmerson)...

Yes the shots on goal where probably about 30 - 12 or there abouts in favour of
the GB team, but this really didn't reflect the game in full. In my opinion it
would be easier than people would think to put together a team to have reversed
this result...

It seems a shame that the so called national team find it a struggle to beat
what was thought to be a pushover. Maybe it's time the team was selected, not
on who they are but how they play as a team. A bit of fitness wouldn't go
adrift either, considering some players on the team couldn't run 100 yards
without being out of breath...

People have always knocked Mike Urquhart for his team selection and lack of
training. Well, the training before this trip was without a doubt the best the
team have ever received. As for the team, well it's not who I would have picked
but it's always going to be subjective and open to debate...

The biggest blame lies with the B.I.H.A. and lack of funding. What hope have
they got however when the senior mens teams have the same problem...

Well the GB team are now in Slovakia. There are probably halfway through their
first game (Denmark) at the time of writing. They'll lose that (I think it was
15-0 last year) and probably all the other games they play over the next few
days. No wonder one of the players selcted this year pulled out...

Somebody mailed me recently asking me why, "when GB have more women's teams than
all but 5 other countries, why are they so crap?"...

I'm wondering who is on the UNH roster? Can anyone give me their names and
perhaps where each player's hometown is located?
