This is a message from Bev Mallory (Louise's mom:-) who's helping out to setup
the Central Ontario Women's Hockey League All Star Game. I thought this
might be of interest to many of you, so I'm forwarding it to the list,
slightly edited.

C.O.W.H.L. All Star Game
The 1996 All Star Game of the Central Ontario Women's Hockey League will be
held on Thursday, March 7 at Chedoke Twin-Pad Arena in Hamilton. Game time
is 8:00 p.m.
The legendary North York Aeros, Ontario's 1996 Senior "AA" champions, will
meet an all-star team made up of players from the other five teams in the
Central Ontario Women's Hockey League.
Senior "AA" is the highest division in the Ontario Women's Hockey
Association, and the highest calibre of play in the world. (It is from
this level that players are chosen for Canada's National Team.) The
Central Ontario Women's Hockey League is made up of the only six teams in
Ontario designated Senior "AA": North York Aeros, Toronto Red Wings,
Peterborough Skyway, London Devilettes, Mississauga Chiefs, and Hamilton
Golden Hawks.
The League All Star Game is an annual showcase of the best female hockey
talent in Ontario. It is a demonstration of the female game played at its
highest calibre: clean, fast, skilful hockey in which body contact is
permitted but intentional body-checking is not allowed.
The Olympic rink (blue) at Chedoke Twin-Pad Arena is an ideal venue for the
game. Fans will be able to watch the game from the comfort of armchair
seats and the players will have plenty of room on the ice in which to
demonstrate their fine skills.
North York Aeros will represent Ontario at the National Women's Hockey
Championship in Moncton, N.B. March 21 to 24. Proceeds from the All-Star
Game will help to defray their travel costs for that event.
Interest in Female Hockey has been growing at a rapidly increasing rate
since the announcement of its inclusion as a medal sport in the Winter
Olympics, beginning in 1998 in Nagano, Japan. The 1997 World Women's
Hockey Championship in Kitchener will be a qualifier for the Olympics.
Both events are bound to include many of the players taking part in the
C.O.W.H.L. All-Star game.
The March 7 game will be an ideal opportunity for hockey fans to get to
know the stars and future stars of this very popular spectator sport.
Admission rates are $4 for adults, $2 for ages 12 to 18 and seniors 65 and
over, and free admission for children under 12. Tickets may be purchased
in advance at all Hamilton Golden Hawks home games, Thursdays at 8 p.m. at
Chedoke Twin Pad Arena.

The New England Preparatory School Girls' Hockey Season is over and the
Championship has been decided. Eight teams are invited to the tournament

With no upsets in the quarterfinals we move into the ECAC Women's League
finals with the Rhode Island and New Hampshire derbies. It's the Ivies versus
the Big Three. Will this be the year an Ivy team finally wins the ECAC League
Championship?
#1 Brown over #4 Providence
Brown won both league matches 4-3 this season. The Brown Bears will have to
be firing together this weekend if they want to beat the four-time defending
champion PC Friars. Providence has an excellent goaltender and remains the
hottest team in the ECAC. I expect a close match with several lead changes
before the talented Bears deliver the telling blow. If PC makes it to the
final, it's lights out. The Friars will then have established "target lock"
and will find a way to win their fifth championship in a row.
#2 UNH over #3 Dartmouth
The UNH Wildcats won the lone league game 2-3 at Hanover. Recently at Durham,
New Hampshire again beat the DC Big Green 6-2. Playing at home I think UNH
will be too tough for anyone to stop. They have the most confident team play
I have seen this year. Dartmouth could pull out a victory if they start
scoring. Big Green has the players and tactics to defeat any team. I look
for the Wildcats to come out with an early score and unless DC answers
quickly, UNH could run away with this match.
#2 UNH over #1 Brown
The Wildcats and Bears played a 1-1 tie in a shortened game at Durham. On the
last weekend of the season, Brown beat UNH 5-4 in Providence to win the League
title. There is no doubt in my mind that the Bears have more firepower than
New Hampshire. Brown's problem lies in their emotional baggage and the lack
of a coherent offensive plan. I believe UNH will exploit these areas of
weakness and win the championship, with their superior team play, in a close
match. The Brown attack could turn it on and devastate the Wildcats, but I
think the tense nature of the final will give UNH the edge.

The Greenwich Tiger Lilies played a girls team from New Jersey (sorry
that I don't know the name) between the first and second periods of the New
York Rangers and Boston Bruins game on Wednesday February 28th at Madison
Square Garden and it was just fantastic! These girls seemed to know exactly
how to play the garden as they came out with plenty of hustle, some great
scoring chances, great saves, a couple of goals and even a couple of solid
body checks (!) which of course the Garden fans just loved! I can't tell
you how exciting it was to hear the roar of applause from the fans at
Madison Square Garden as these young girls skated off the ice. I hope they
will continue to hear this kind of support as they become women hockey
players.

else who may enlighten me:
How do you get scheduled to play in between periods of a Bruins game?
We are from Seattle and are planning a road trip to the eastcoast next year
and would love to be involved in such an event. (The team is a girls midgit
rep team, ages 13-17) We are also looking for some girls teams to play.
Can anyone send me info or contact names??? Thanks in advanced!
