Here are the number of males and females who were registered
for hockey in each province during the 1994-95 season. The
overall ratio of females to males in Canada was 1:25.

Message from a hockey parent in Australia: did you know we have women's
hockey teams here? Sydney already has several US or Canadian women
playing- so does Canberra. The season runs midyear, in the Australian
winter. If you are planning working/studying/or an extended visit in
Australia your hockey skills will be greatly appreciated. I'd be happy
to provide further details. My 2 daughters play for Canterbury Eagles AA
in Sydney- I wish I'd discovered the game when I was their age! We have
men's teams playing here as well, but after the Australian team lost to
Israel (11-1 or something equally dreadful) in the World Championship
prelims, I think it's quite fair to look at the women's league in
Australia as being the one with potential. We would like to see the
women's game in Australia get to world/olympic contention- step 1 is to
get into the Asian league against China, Japan, Korea etc.

YEAH ANDRIA!!! Written like a true computer science major.....as an
engineer, I applaud the fact that you not only answered the question,
but provided historical, statistical data as well. Proving once again,
that the women on this list have as much brain as we do brawn.

Keep up the good work!

To reply to the two most recent questions regarding women's hockey:

My best guess is that about 5% of the people playing hockey in Houston
are women. We don't have any organization and are scattered through the
varuous men's leagues, so it is hard to get a good count.

I think that fielding a team in the men's league here runs about $2200
for a 13 person team for a 12 game season. Most ice here runs between
$10 and $15 an hour per person and goalies are almost always free. I
play in a house novice league, so the figures aren't based on any
knowledge of the Houston Mens League.

On the subject of what is available out there.....
Are there any women on this list living in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin,
or San Antonio (TEXAS) areas? I have been thinking that I would like to
play on a women's team for a change and have two proposals....

1) we could get together and buy ice for a women's drop-ins in one of
the above cities or Houston. I think I might be able to scrap together
a team of women from Houston.

2) if you have a women's team currently travelling, I am interested in
going to a women's tounament. So if you could use a novice level wing,
I am your person.
