My wife had an interesting conversation today with a rep from USA Hockey
(Ty Albers -- 317-578-3111), about hockey-related merchandising specifically
for the women's/girl's hockey people. Right now, they don't have very much to
offer that is gender-specific for women, but they are willing to work with us
for our girl's hockey tournament to make something up. If there are other
people on the list who are interested in working with USA Hockey to get
something going in terms of a poster, bumper stickers, tee-shirts, sweats,
hats, etc that carry a message promoting Women's/Girl's Hockey, you might
consider talking to Ty Albers at the above number. The more he hears about
the market out there for this type of merchandise, the more likely USA Hockey
will invest in developing something good that will serve both the purpose of
raising some money for the sport as well as raising the profile and getting
the word out about women's/girl's hockey. Kick Ice! Best, GG.

Subject: Putting info on the web page

Hi,

First of all, thanks for all the info, this is coming along pretty nicely.

Second, I've had a couple of discussions off-line about putting info
up on the web page. We'd like to list contacts for teams/leagues, but
how to do it without subjecting those contact people to possible
advertising or other mailings or things such as that.

I admit to being nervous about this to an extent since the web can
have such high traffic. On one hand, its great to see all of the
women's teams/leagues, on the other, you don't know who's looking at this
info and for what reason.

Any comments? Am I being too paranoid?

BTW, the Minnesota registrar suggested only listing contacts for
the league levels, which I did (although I added those individuals in
the league who offered to be a contact (ie Tom). Minn. has 31 women's
teams in 3 divisions (plus a few that aren't in that league), and over
130 girls teams!! Wow, and I thought Mich was growing...

Even better is to talk to Ty AND your own USA Hockey Rep! If USA Hockey
starts hearing it from all quarters of the US, they'll get the message!!!

hi!

Me again :) Just wanted to let people know about some clinics this
summer. I'm not associated with this organization, just attended the
clinics last summer and really liked it.

This summer they will have clinics in:
	Anchorage, Alaska
	Lakewood, California
	Chicago, Illinois
Chamonix, France <- high school students only
 	Mt. Clemens, Michigan
	Eden Prairie, Minnesota
	Walpole, Massachusetts
	Rockville, Maryland

The head coach is Karen Kay (UNH coach). They have a girls ice hockey
school (age 8-18, all levels), a senior womens hockey clinic, and a High
level training program (min age 14-- for college bound hopefuls).

If you want more info call them at 800-868-7679.

Last year, she brought along some of the Team USA skaters (Shelley Looney,
Kelly Dyer, Chris Bailey --hope I got the names right and spelled right).
The flyer advertises the following as guest coaches for this year:
Christina Bailey, Lisa Brown, Karyn Bye, Cindy Curley, Shawna Davidson, Maria
Dennis, Kelly Dyer, Shelley Looney, Brian McClosky, Fred Quistgard,
Sue Reece, Kelley Roberts, Joe Snicinski, and Gretchen Ulion.

Also, if you haven't guessed, if you're trying to play in college, this
would give you visibility since Karen coaches at UNH, Lisa coaches at
Princeton, Joe coaches at Yale, and lots others are ass't coaches.

If you're interested, give them a call and get the info.

Sorry if anyone is upset about this pseudo ad, I just think this is too great
an opportunity to miss... at least find out about it. I don't know how they
advertise, but if I hadn't wandered into Mt. Clemens rink last year and picked
up a brochure I wouldn't have heard of it.

Hi,

Rhonda posted a message about some of the summer hockey clinics, I thought
I would add a little to that list. This past summer I worked at girls'
hockey camps in New England. These camps varied greatly in skill and age
level as well as physical intensity. They included:

The Blue Hills Girls' Hockey School is a small girls boarding camp held at
the Williston - North Hampton School in East Hampton, MA. It is run by
John Dooley, the former Harvard Womens' coach. The coaching staff
included, Julie Andeberhan, the head coach for Cornell, Bill MacDonald from
Harvard, and Dick Marr from Tabor Academy. The counsellors included
players from UNH, Middlebury, and myself from Cornell.

Paul Vincents Dynamic Skating camps are intense hockey clinics which are
held all over New England. Some are boarding camps and some are day camps.
Most are co-ed. The only women's camps are boarding camps held at the
Williston-North Hampton School in East Hampton, MA. Many of the co-ed
camps are specialized for forwards, defense, goalies, or for specific
skills like shooting and passing. The staff varies from camp to camp, and
includes coaches and players from the UMASS colleges, players from the USA
and Canadian Women's national teams, and players from Div. I women's hockey
teams.

The Babson Girls' Hockey Camp is a boarding camp held at Babson College in
Wellesley, MA. It is run by Steve Stirling, the Babson Athletic Director
(he also runs the Europa Cup summer leagues). The coaching staff consisted
of players from the U.S. women's national team, the Northfield-Mount Hermon
and Taft Schools, local town teams, and recent graduates from UNH and
Princeton. The counsellors included players from UNH, Princeton, Yale,
Cornell, Milton Academy, and Lawrenceville Academy.

There is a girl's camp here at Cornell run by Julie Andeberhan, our head
coach. This past summer the staff aslo included our asst. coach Carol
Mullins, many of my teammates, and Karen Bye from Team USA.

Phillips Exeter Acadamy and Dartmouth College each run thier own camps in
NH. I don't know much about either of them except that the Katie Stone
from Harvard was at Exeter this past summer, and that George Crowe runs the
Dartmouth camp which is staffed mostly by Dartmouth players.

Hope this was helpful. I'll repeat Rhonda's appology for the pseudo-add.
I tried to be non-partisan (hey, I included the Dartmouth camp didn't I) ;)
If anyone wants any more info about these camps, feel free to email me
directly.

Yes, you can get hockey scholarships at some of the Div. I varsity schools.
I know you can get them at UNH, and I'm pretty sure you can get them at
Providence. Nobody knows what is happening with Northeastern. Many
schools, like the Ivy League schools, don't give hockey scholarships, but
do provide financial aid. There are also some other
non-university-sponsored scholarships. The best way to get info is to talk
to the coaches and ask them directly.

To Cathy and any other Canadian grad students - Sorry, we have eligability
rules in the US that don't allow grad students to play. However, I was
thinking of going to Canada to get my MBA so I can get my degree and
continue skating (I'm a junior at Cornell). Does anyone have any info that
would help me?

See Ya,
Jess

In reply to the Team USA clinics, I also beleive that Coach Mason (here at MSU,
he is the guy's varsity coach) is holding a week-long camp. I don't have more
info yet, but I will keep you all updated.
