I just heard that the Toronto Tornados claimed the Women's US National
Roller Hockey Championship in Minneapolis, MN this past weekend. I
don't have many details at this point, but if I do find out more
information, I'll post it to this mailing list. I heard that they won
against a team from Northern California in the final game, and that they
had a tough battle in the semi-final (6-2) against Team Rollerblade
(Minneapolis). If anyone has more information, please send it to the list.

Subject: Question: Canadian youth age divisions; girls' tournaments
Message-ID:
OK, I made an effort to find this out without broadcasting a message, but
failed. I'm trying to find some suitable tournaments for a newly-forming
12 and under girls' team (USA Hockey Squirts, born after 6/30/83), B level.
The Canadian age classification system is different. Can someone explain
the age categories for Candian youths, and whether there are differences
between girls and boys as there are in USA Hockey? Reply directly to me and
I'll summarize an answer to the list.
By the way, I'm looking for a West Coast tournament around Thanksgiving,
offering a girls' Squirt B division. Does anyone know of one?
Finally, I'm working on talking to some local (Northern California) tournament
organizers, to see if they will offer some girls' divisions in their
tournaments this year. Are there any teams interested in finding out more?

Yes the Toronto Tornadoes claimed the Women's US National
Roller Hockey Championship in Minneapolis, MN.
The tournament was set up into two pools. All teams from Pool A played
every team in Pool B as a part of the preliminary round action.
The Toronto Tornadoes and Team Rollerblade were is Pool A.
The Northern California team (Dry Ice Fury) was in Pool B.
Both the Toronto Tornadoes and Team Rollerblade beat every team in Pool B.
The semi's consisted of the top two teams from their respective pool
playing each other. Unfortunately cross over play (which is common to get
the two best teams into the finals) was not instituted.
So the Toronto Tornadoes and Team Rollerblade played off what was
considered by all to be the best game of the Women's tournament. The score
only slightly incorrect as reported in Andria's posting was 5-2. Team
Rollerblade had to play a good defensive game against the offensive power
of the Toronto Tornadoes.
An indication of what the Inline officials thought of the two teams
capabilities was shown by the selection of three Toronto Tornado players
and two Team Rollerblade players (Goalie Jeanne Aura-Hall and Defense Linda
Nowak [#5]) as the All-Tournament team.
The only unfortunate aspect of the tournament was the Toronto Tornado
players who decided to go drinking between the semifinal game and the
championship game. They won the game 6-0 and looked sloppy and clumsy.
#15 Team Rollerblade Sheryl E.

Subject: forthcoming games in Australia
Message-ID: <321CC605@cmccorm>
Hey everyone,
I've got a series of games against another state, South Australia, and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice they could give my team, to give us a little hope and
encouragement, to help us think we at least have a chance.
The S.A. teams have been together for about the same amount of time as the Dolphins
have, but the South Australian Ice Hockey Association (SAIHA) really support and
encourage the women, whereas the Victorian Ice Hockey Association (VIHA) don't care
about us. (just in case anyone is confused, my home state is Victoria)
Does anyone have any advice about how we can get the support of the VIHA, and some
hope about the forthcoming games?
They'll be our first official games too.
Thanks.
Chris.
