Guildford Lightning Vs Bracknell Queen Bees - 22 October 1995

The first meeting between these two teams for the 1995 / 1996 season
was as expected, a very hard game for both sides.

The first period began at a fast pace with some end to end plays and
some hard hits from the onset. Bracknell suffered penalties at both
02:37 and 05.42 with Guildford however not able to score on the
powerplay. At 06:08 Guildford lost two players in the penalty box
giving Bracknell a short five on three situation which they failed to
convert. It was at 09:05 however that Bracknell scored the first goal
of the game due to a Guildford defensive error. Although the
Lightning seemed to have a slight edge on possession during the first
period they were out shot 13 - 4 although there were no other goals.

The second period again sustained a fast pace with the possession of
the puck being shared but again Bracknell out shot Guildford 16 - 6 by
the 30:00 mark. By this time Guildford found themselves 3 - 0 down
following two good goals from Bracknell at 23:27 and 28:32.

The momentum again swung in favour of the Lightning for the third
period with most of the action coming in the Bracknell zone. 31:06
saw the first goal from the Lightning when Shelley Owen scored her
first Guildford goal with a wrist shot from the blue line into the top
right hand corner of the Bracknell net. At 40:22 Guildford again
found themselves on the powerplay when a Bracknell player received a 2
+ 2 penalty. This was followed at 43:18 with another Bracknell
penalty to give Guildford a five on three play. This did not lead to
a goal mainly due to the play of the Bracknell netminder.

Both teams having played hard and fast throughout the 45 minutes
showed the final score to be 3 - 1 in favour of Bracknell. The score
was a good reflection of the game with both teams having missed a few
opportunities.

Player of the match for Guildford went to Gill Barton having faced 36
shots in total.

Guildford Lightning Scorers :-

Shelley Owen	1 + 0
