Women's Hockey Signs Three

November 30, 2004

MADISON, Wis. - Head women's hockey coach Mark Johnson has announced that three student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. Forwards Kayla Hagen (Crosslake, Minn.), Angie Keseley (St. Louis Park, Minn.) and Erika Lawler (Fitchburg, Mass.) will all attend the University of Wisconsin beginning with the 2005-06 school year.

Coach Johnson commented on the newest Badgers:

"We're really pleased to be able to sign these three athletes early on. They are good skaters and can handle the puck well. As we move into the spring we are hoping to round the group out and fill in the holes. We were really happy to get two of the top recruits out of Minnesota with Angie (Keseley) and Kayla Hagen. All three will help us replace the forwards we're losing next year."

"These women have all competed and performed, consistently at the level they are at. Both Angie and Kayla have put up big numbers since their freshman years. Kayla went from 28 goals her freshman year to 49 to 57 last season. She holds five of 10 state tournament records in scoring. Angie led the state in points last season. This is the caliber of athletes that we are bringing in and the entire coaching staff is excited to bring them in."

"We got a chance to see Erika while we were out in Boston last weekend. It's certainly nice to get a good recruit out of the East Coast. She is just a great young person with a wonderful personality. She is the captain of her team at Cushing and will be a good addition to our team here."

Skates for the Hibbing HS Bluejackets ... led the Bluejackets to three section 3A titles and two runner-up finishes at the state tournament ... named to the state all-tournament team three years ... earned all-area recognition the past three years, all-state the past two ... junior year named Associated Press all-state first team ... participated in USA developmental camp the past three years ... named most offensive forward second year at camp and team MVP last year ... five-year participant in the Community Olympic Development Program ... tallied 252 career points in three seasons (134g, 118a) ... hold five of ten stat tournament records for individual scoring ... also played softball and golf at Hibbing ... member of the National Honor Society ... shoots right ... born 2/21/87

Angie Keseley (Keys-lee)

Forward * 5-7

St. Louis Park, Minn. (St. Louis Park)

Skates for St. Louis Park HS Orioles ... an all-conference selection the past three years ... Team MVP sophomore and junior years ... named to the Star Tribune all-Metro second team ... led her conference in points during freshman campaign ... led the state in points last season (95 regular season, 103 overall) ... current varsity statistics: 101 games played, 187 goals, 102 assists, 289 points ... participated in the National Development Camp, 2002, 03, 04 ... spent four summers training in the Community Olympic Development program ... also lettered in soccer ... shoots left ... born 6/9/87 ... brother Jon plays hockey for Gustavus Adolphus College

Erika Lawler

Forward * 5-0

Fitchburg, Mass.

Attends Cushing Academy and skates for the Penguins ... three-year recipient of the Bette Davis Award ... named the best offensive player sophomore year ... selected for the New England All-Star League last season ... helped the Penguins to a win in the EG Watkins Tourney the past two season ... participated in the Lake Placid Under-16 and Under-17 Festivals, 2003, 04 ... also competed in field hockey and lacrosse ... shoots right ... born 2/5/87 ... Wisconsin assistant coach Tracey Cornell served as head coach at Cushing Academy from 1998-99 before coming to Wisconsin
