 First thing I would suggest to help build a program is create a team website. The tone should be friendly and inviting and be specific about beginners are welcome and encouraged to join. The NJ Quarry Cats women's program is very succesful because the rink www.floydhallarena.com put a link within the main navigation for "Womens Hockey" to the Quarry Cats website. If your rink is amicable enough to a girls/womens' hockey program, I'm sure if you spoke to the manager they would be happy to add a link on their website. If no one in your organization is web savvy you can create a team website with www.eteamz.com - for free and it's easy. Good luck! Kelly Grove --Original Message-- From: Patrick McCarthy To:
Subject: Building a girls program
  Hi my daughter currently plays for a first year U12 town youth team, which
is great she loves playing and loves her teammates. The coach is trying his
best to develop the program for next year and years after. But I am sure
like many other town youth organizations they don't seem to believe in
"Girls Teams" and give him very little support, but that's a whole other
story. He has been trying to get more girls from the town involved and what
I am looking for is ideas of how to grow the teams, here are some of the
ideas we have kicked around;
An open house - where girls could bring friends along to give hockey a try.
Flyers - for the girls to bring into school to hand out to classmates to
generate interest.
The open house seems to be going nowhere, the organization is worried about
insurance, liability issues and that kind of thing and with the season
coming to an end ice time is becoming scarce.
So what are your ideas on how to get a program going with little or no
support ?
