ENGSTROM EARNS WCHA ALL-TOURNAMENT HONOR

MINNEAPOLIS - Molly Engstrom, a junior defender on the Wisconsin womens hockey team, was named to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association 2004 Womens Final Five All-Tournament Team.

Engstrom, a native of Siren, Wis., scored Wisconsins lone goal against Minnesota-Duluth during the Badgers semifinal loss to the Bulldogs Saturday. Engstrom then helped lead her team to a 5-4 sudden-death overtime victory Sunday against Ohio State for a third-place finish in the Final Five.

After finishing 18-5-1 during the WCHA regular season, Engstrom and her Wisconsin teammates improved to 25-6-3 overall this past weekend. The Badgers now await the NCAA selection announcement this Sunday, March 21, to see if they will qualify for the 2004 Frozen Four held in Providence, R.I., March 26-28. The 25-win mark currently leads all Badger sports this year.

A member of the 2004 U.S. Womens National Team, Engstrom also earned the WCHAs 2004 Defensive Player of the Year award and was named to the 2004 All-WCHA First Team this past weekend. This seasons league honors mark the first of her three-year UW career.

She has scored five goals and tallied 19 assists to rank fifth among the Badgers top scorers with 24 points through all 34 games this season. Additionally, Engstrom has built a +29 rating to place third on the teams plus/minus rankings.

During her Badger career wearing the Cardinal and White, she has recorded 15 goals and 38 assists for 53 total points at Wisconsin. Adding this season, Engstrom jumps to a +46 rating on the ice.

Off the ice, Engstrom is currently studying for a pre-landscape architecture major. She is the daughter of Judy and Rick Engstrom.
