Vogt and Vizenor Nab Conference Accolades
Vogt Named to All-WCHA First Team; Vizenor Named WCHA Coach of the Year

Minneapolis, Minn.-- Minnesota State was rewarded for its turnaround season with postseason accolades at the 2004 WCHA awards banquet, held in conjunction with the Women's Final Five held this weekend at Ridder Arena.
Senior goaltender Shari Vogt (Richmond, Minn.) was voted to the All-WCHA First Team for the second time in her accomplished career. She became the first Maverick player ever named to the team last season. The owner of nearly every goaltending record on the MSU books, she finished her tenure with a team-record 26 career wins, including 15 this season alone and broke her own single-season save mark with 1,103 in 32 games played. Her career total of 3,590 saves is a team and WCHA record as well. She established new season marks in save percentage (.934) and goals against average (2.26) while lowering the latter from 3.61 to 3.18 for her career. Vogt was a five-time WCHA Player of the Week this season, giving her eight such awards in her career. She was also thrice named USCHO.com National Defensive Player of the Week for her performances, for a career total of four.
Vizenor became the first coach in the six-year history of the program to receive WCHA Coach of the Year honors after leading the Mavericks to their most successful season to date. Under his direction, Minnesota State finished the 2003-04 campaign with a mark of 16-14-4 and 9-11-4 in WCHA action, setting a team record for wins and completing the first-ever winning season. The 22 points in conference play gave the team a tie for fourth place in the league standings and exceeded the point total from the previous four years combined. The Mavericks also made their first appearance in the WCHA Women's Final Five, falling to Ohio State 3-1 in the first round. Vizenor's teams have shown striking improvement in his three seasons at the helm. The win totals have increased every year, from four in 2001-02 to 10 last season and 16 this season. He has been recognized by his peers in the past, earning MIAC Coach of the Year honors at St. Mary's in 1998-99 after leading the team to a share of the conference championship.
Three Mavericks were honored on the academic front as well as members of the WCHA All-Academic Team. Vogt, a physical education major, was named to the sqaud for the third time in her career. She was joined by fellow senior Amanda Osborn (Brier, Wash), a mathematics major, who was also honored for the third time. Sophomore defenseman Jen Jonsson (Oakview, Man.) was named to the team for the first time as a kinesiology major.
