The only comment I have for you is that occasionally it might make sense to
wear your skates without socks. I have had skates that were too tight -
mostly narrow and my arch's would cramp up quite bad. My feet would also get
cold. I switched to going barefoot and this relieved the cramping and the cold
feet - even when skating outside. It may or may not work for you and I don't
recomend it as a permanent solution. However, it may allow you to use those
skates until they wear out. It is important to dry your skates between uses
as they will stink and wear or rot out from the inside if you don't take
care of them. I still wear my Mission roller hockey skates this way as they are
too narrow and my archs cramp. I have Bauer ice skates that fit correctly
with socks. My wife goes without socks with her ice hockey skates - but they
stink something horrible. I will not take them in to get sharpened as I am
embarrassed:-)

As far as new skates - you have to be the judge, but you might want to make
sure you get skates wide enough and ones that can be "baked".

Good Luck

Tom
