MacLEOD NAMED USCHO.COM DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MADISON, Wis. - U.S. College Hockey Online selected Wisconsin women's hockey team captain Carla MacLeod as the Defensive Player of the Week for Feb. 9-15.

Her second weekly national honor of the season, MacLeod, a UW junior, helped lead fourth-ranked Wisconsin to a home-series sweep of ninth-ranked Minnesota State last weekend at the Kohl Center. She was also named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week.

Defensive Player of the Week: Carla MacLeod ¯ Wisconsin

With three players out for Canadian U-22 team duty and upstart No. 9 Minnesota State coming to town, Wisconsin needed an extra effort from its remaining players.

Badger defenseman and captain Carla MacLeod, the USCHO.com Defensive Player of the Week, returned from the Canadian national camp this week to lead a sterling defensive effort against the Mavericks.

Through two games, Wisconsin limited the Mavericks to just one goal, and none when MacLeod was on the ice. She finished with a +3 rating for the weekend, and scored a game-winning shorthanded goal in the second game. The victories moved Wisconsin into a tie for first with Minnesota in the WCHA standings.

MacLeod (Calgary, Alb.) captains a defense that has limited opponents to fewer than three goals in 15 of Wisconsin's last 17 games, including all nine during the Badgers' current 6-0-3 unbeaten streak ¯ the longest active streak in the nation. This is MacLeod's second USCHO.com Defensive Player of the Week honor.
