MIKKELSON EARNS WCHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS

MADISON, Wis. - Meaghan Mikkelson, a frosh on the Wisconsin women's
hockey team, was named the WCHA's Rookie of the Week for Oct. 13 after
scoring a goal in each of her first two career games wearing the
cardinal and white. The St. Albert, Alberta, native tallied a goal in
Wisconsin's 2-0 and 7-0 victories against Vermont at the Kohl Center
this past weekend.

A member of Canada's under-22 national team this summer, Mikkelson
played for her home country in a three-game exhibition series against
the U.S. under-22 national team in July. She played and trained last
year with members of the 2002 gold medal Canadian Olympic team for the
Oval X-Treme in Calgary and helped her team win the NWHL championship
and Esso Nationals title during the 2002-2003 season. Additionally, she
was named the assistant captain for Team Alberta in the 2003 Canadian
Winter Games.

After two scoreless periods, Mikkelson scored UW's first goal of the
season and the first of her collegiate career on a power play against
Vermont Friday night. The Badger frosh posted her second goal in the
Badgers' dominating 7-0 win Saturday night. She is now tied with
teammate Nikki Burish for the team lead in goals scored after two games.

Wisconsin (2-0-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) will make its first road trip of the
season next week for a two-game series at Maine. Game times are set for
1 p.m. CST on Sunday, Oct. 19 and Monday, Oct. 20.

The Black Bears return 13 letterwinners from last year's 12-15-4
squad. Maine placed third overall with a 5-8-2 record in the inaugural
season of the Hockey East Women's League. The Black Bears' games
against Wisconsin will be the team's season-opening series.

BADGERS MAINTAIN SIXTH-PLACE NATIONAL RANKING

The Wisconsin women's hockey team retained its sixth-place national
ranking in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online poll, released Monday,
Oct. 13.

Minnesota climbed to first place, while last week's top team,
three-time defending NCAA champ Minnesota-Duluth, fell to fifth place
after back-to-back losses to Minnesota State this past weekend.
Dartmouth stayed at No. 2, followed by Harvard and Providence climbing
one spot left open by the Bulldogs' drop to fifth.

Among other WCHA schools, Minnesota State moved up to tenth place from
being unranked last week and Ohio State received votes in the poll.
