Osborn and Salatino Get Mavericks Back on Track

Grand Forks, N.D.-- Minnesota State (7-1-0, 4-0-0 WCHA) received a pair of goals apiece from two players to regain their early-season form, salvaging a split with a 5-2 road win over North Dakota. The game was the last meeting of the two teams as non-conference opponents as UND joins the WCHA next season.
Freshman Alycia Wilson (Temple City, Calif.) picked up her third career goal with an even-strength tally at 5:08 of the first period. Sophomore Lyndsay James (St. Paul, Minn.) notched her first point of the year with an assist while sophomore Amber Sharratt (Ramsey, Minn.) collected her fifth. The Mavericks would go up by two midway through the second when leading scorer Melanie Salatino (Thunder Bay, Ont.) capitalized on a power-play opportunity for her team-best seventh goal of the year. Assisting on the goal was sophomores Devon Nichols (Victoria, Minn.) and Andrea Jensrud (Blaine, Minn.), their sixth and second respective assists. Exactly six minutes later, senior forward Amanda Osborn (Briar, Wash.) hammered home the eventual game-winner on a feed from freshman Autumn Conway (Little Canada, Minn.). It was the first goal of the season for Osborn, the team's leading scorer last season.
The Fighting Sioux would inch closer with an early goal in the third stanza but Osborn would tack on another goal, this one unassisted, to give MSU even more breathing room. Following a UND goal at 10:34 of the final frame, Salatino scored the capper, an unassisted goal at 14:07. Senior netminder Shari Vogt (Richmond, Minn.) collected 22 saves in the win.
The Mavericks will return to WCHA action with a four-game homestand beginnning next weekend against Wisconsin. Game times for Friday and Saturday are 7:05 p.m. and 3:05 p.m., respectively.
