My name is Amy Gillespie and I am organizing the first annual women’s hockey golf tournament to raise money and awareness of women’s hockey in Owen Sound. Owen Sound, for the first time ever, had two high school women’s hockey teams this year.

My goal, as a women that plays and enjoys the game of hockey, is to provide the awareness/funding to properly run the women’s teams already in existence and to create opportunities for more teams and for young girls to have a place locally to play and develop their game.

In order to provide the awareness/funding, I am organizing an annual golf tournament and I would like the  proceeds to go to the Owen Sound high school teams and other Owen Sound Women’s Hockey Teams. 

Tournament Date: Sunday July 13, 2003, 12:00PM Shotgun, Registration 11:00AM

Location: Chippewa Golf and Country Club in Southampton Ontario (approx. 25min drive from Owen Sound)

Entry Fee: $75 Includes Green Fees/Roast Beef  Dinner

Chippewa Golf and Country Club has had great success in the past with charity tournaments. This year Chippewa is having the 4th annual Platers/Attack (OHL) Alumni Charity Golf Tournament. Over the past three years this tournament has become increasingly successful in raising approximately $16,600 for required renovations to the local Arena to keep our OHL team where it belongs, and an additional $6,000 for the Grey Bruce Youth Initiative. We have been able to attract such Plater Alumni as Andrew Brunette (MIN), Kirk Maltby (DET), Jamie Storr (LA), Brent Johnson (STL), Scott Walker (NSH), ), Sean Avery (LA), Dan Snyder (ATL), and Curtis Sanford (STL). Each of these players has commented on how much fun it is to be a part of this tournament and reunite annually with former team mates.

If you could supply either a prize or some golfers that would be greatly appreciated. 

We are also trying to get some of the Women's Team Canada Alumni to help us promote this day and golf with us.

I hope to be successful with our Women’s Hockey Golf Tournament. I feel confident that by working together we can raise a great deal of money for the sport that we all adore.
