Shauna,
Of course you should research this and not make the decision lightly, and
remember, everyone is different - but Jenny Schmidgall Potter was playing
for Team USA just a few months after giving birth, and continues to play
college hockey at a very high level.  Many professional women athletes in
basketball and soccer are also mothers.
