I am currently four and a half months pregnant and played up until a couple
of weeks ago (when my season ended). I have heard from other pregnant
friends that their doctor said it was okay to play through your first three
months. I played beyond that because I still felt good while I was playing
and after. The only thing I noticed as my pregnancy progressed is I would
get out of breath quicker, so I needed to keep my shifts short.

However a team-mate of mine who is one week ahead of me in her pregnancy
stopped early in her second month because she had some abdominal pain the
night after playing. I think it really varies person to person. I have
another friend who swears she played at the Esso Women's Nationals (Canada's
national championship for senior AAA teams) with a team-mate who was six
months along (she just wore an extra pad on her belly!)

How long you can play depends on the level you play at and the league you're
in. How long you play also depends on the kind of pregnancy you're having.
You should consult with your doctor and let her know your intentions.

I play recreational hockey on Manitoulin Island and played until the end of
my fourth month of second pregnancy. Most of the other players in the
league aren't dirty players but I did avoid playing one particular team. I
did notice that I wasn't as fast as I normally am but other than that my
team mates didn't even know I was pregnant.

I reluctantly missed the last 2 months of the hockey season and even dreamed
about playing.
