Elmira College Wins Second NCAA DIII National Championship in second year of 
existence.

The Elmira College Soaring Eagles of Elmira New York have made their mark on 
the college hockey scene after solidly defeating the Manhattanville Valiants 
5-1 at the DIII Frozen Four March 22. In the consolation game Bowdoin held 
off Univ. of Wisconsin-River Falls 4-2.

It is the second National Championship for the Soaring Eagles who were a 
first year team during the 2001-2002 season. In winning the Championship 
last season they set numerous NCAA records. The Hockey Hall of Fame 
recognized the team's achievements with a special ceremony and display case 
at the Hall in Toronto.

A first year team has never won an NCAA National Championship in any sport. 
Winning back-to-back Championships in two years of existence obviously has 
never been done either. Such a feat is not supposed to happen, but the 
Eagles were the number one ranked team in the nation all season with the 
nation's more established teams all aiming to knock the Eagles from their 
perch but the team went undefeated against all DIII opponents.

They sport an amazing record. During the 2001-02 season they had
Wins- 25   Losses- 1  Ties- 1

This season they had
Wins- 23  Losses- 0  Ties- 2

They are 1 win and 4 losses in two seasons against DI teams.
