CALGARY (CP) - The chances of Canada defending its title at the women's
world hockey championship took a turn for the worse Friday.
Health Canada has recommended that travellers delay going to China due to
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The head of the Canadian Hockey
Association said the women's team will not travel to Beijing for the world
championship April 3-9 as long as that advisory is in place. "With the
advisory that is out there today from Health Canada, we wouldn't be going,"
said Bob Nicholson. "We're not going to put a player in an unsafe
environment."
