Just wanted to let everybody know...

Sometimes, growth comes incrementally over a long time. On ocassion you can bear witness to a quantitative change, a lightning flash of brilliance in the stages of personal development of girl inline hockey players. We have just happened upon such this month...

1. We have three local club organizations that work with teams, ages 13 & younger, that play competitive tournaments. Prior to January 2003, two of these groups would never even consider allowing a girl try-out for their teams. As of right now, every single team and coach has actively recruited our girls. It is now known that if you want to have a quality team, you must have the girls as a part of it.

2. Rose is the recognized highest skill level offensive skater 10 & under. Rose is a girl. Rose plays rec league up through Midget Division (17 & under). Rose is playing on three club tournament teams.

3. Brittany is the best local goalkeeper 12 & under (and she is actually 10 & under). Brittany is a girl. Brittany plays rec league up through Bantam Division (14 & under). Brittany is USA Hockey National Skills Champion-Runner up (12 & under), 2002. Brittany plays on four club tournament teams.

4. Arlene is the fastest skater 13 & under in the city. Arlene is a girl. Arlene is USA Hockey Inline National Skills Champion (12 & under), 2002. Arlene plays rec league up through Midget Division (17 & under).

5. Caitlin is recognized as the premier 12 year old defender in the city. Caitlin is a girl. Caitlin captains two of her three house rec league teams, playing up through the Midget Division (17 & under). Caitlin presently trains weekly with five seperate club tournament teams.

In addition to the above four girls, each in the advanced skill level for their age, we have a dozen other girls in various stages of the novice and intermediate levels of development. The girls' program of activities (training, house rec league, all-girls tournament teams) continues to grow.

We are all working hard toward legitimate national recognition. Hope to see you all somewhere in the near future, out on the blue floor...

-Dan, Caitlin, Rose, Arlene, Brittany, and all the Polar Bears in El Paso, Texas
