It's a UW First! Hockey Teams Both Rank Among Top-Five Nationally

MADISON, Wis. - A small piece of Badger hockey history has been written this week. For the first time since the beginning of the Wisconsin women's hockey program in 1999, both the Badger women and the Badger men achieved top-five rankings in the latest national polls.

The UW women climbed to No. 4 in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Poll (Dec. 16) and remained at No. 5 in the U.S. College Hockey Online Poll (Dec. 15), while the UW men earned fourth-place rankings in both polls to enter the top five for the first time since Oct. 30, 2000.

The Wisconsin women (12-4-0, 8-4-0 WCHA) earned a series split (Dec. 5-6) against three-time defending NCAA champ Minnesota-Duluth to move up in the rankings, while the Wisconsin men (11-3-4, 6-2-4 WCHA) tied the school record by continuing their 14-game unbeaten streak with a sweep of visiting Minnesota State (Dec. 12-13) at the Kohl Center.

The hockey excellence continues into the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings as both the Badger men and Badger women also hold second place within their respective leagues with 16 points a piece. The UW women are just three points shy of undefeated Minnesota (19 points), while the UW men are nipping at the heels of St. Cloud State (18 points).

Visit both of the Badger hockey teams' pages at uwbadgers.com for more information on the latest polls and results.
