I'm not going to go into the pros and cons of allowing body checking in
women's hockey (I know there are good arguments on both sides).  I will say
this, though, I think the rule is often misinterpreted by hockey fans who
think it means no body contact (hey, I was there once myself).  At least at
the division I level, there is plenty of physical play.  Hopefully with more
high-level conference and Frozen Four games televised, people will see how
great the women's game can be.  Unfortunately, in today's world, marketing
is just about everything.  The game and the players need to be more in the
public's eye.  As a fan (not a player) I'd love to see a pro league based on
a WUSA -type model.  I think we can work toward it, but right now there
isn't the fan base to support it financially.  Let's do what we can to
change that.
