Mark Johnson, assistant Wisconsin men's hockey coach the past six years,
recently joined the staff of women's hockey as the head coach. The UW men's
hockey legend recorded 256 points on a school-record 125 goals in three
seasons of play to rank second all-time on the Badger scoring chart. The
leading scorer for the 1980 U.S. Olympic gold medalist "Miracle on Ice" team,
Johnson has represented USA Hockey in 13 international tournaments, more than
any other player.

Johnson, who has helped coach current NHL players Steve Reinprecht (Colorado
Avalanche), David Tanabe (Carolina Hurricanes) and Dany Heatley (Atlanta
Thrashers), was the Colonial Hockey League Coach of the Year for the 1995-96
season after directing the expansion Madison Monsters to a 37-30-7 mark in
their inaugural season. He has also coached Verona and Madison Memorial High
Schools.
