Hi,

The Peel Board of Education (public schools), has recently made this ruling.
I don't know why they did this, but I would suspect some schools were
"stacking"
their teams. I called the board about this, and they basically said that
this
ruling was very recent and there's not much we can do. Even if Jaime
physically
moves to another school, with a hockey team, she would have to sit out one
year
before she could play for that school. Not a very fair ruling at all.

Debbie

I went to a small school in rural Ontario and the policy of the board
(Niagara South Board of Ed) was that if a program was not offered at the
school which the student attended, they could play for the team of the
school closest. As a result, without a football team we had four or five
boys each year go to a nearby school to play for them. Several girls played
both hockey and rugby at other schools, and it was completely legal. If the
school did acquire a program (now there is a girls' hockey team) then they
would no longer be able to play at the other schoo.
I'd be interested to know why Peel Region (I believe that's Mississauga)
does not also have this initiative. Perhaps you should inquire about this
ruling further.
Dawn
