Just a reminder that the US National Team will face off against the UNH
Wildcats this Saturday, February 10th at 2 PM.
If you've never been to the Whittemore Arena, here's a chance to see Team USA
on a Olympic-sized rink up close...not a bad seat in the house!
For directions, www.wildcats.com . I have donated an authentic USA Team
Jersey to be signed by the US National Team (fresh off two wins against Team
Canada)
and raffled the day of the game...hope to see you there and good luck!

KENNEDY EARNS WCHA PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR

For the second week in a row, and sixth time in 14 weeks this season, a
Minnesota player was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association-Women's
League player of the week.
Senior Courtney Kennedy (Woburn, Mass./Buckingham, Browne & Nichols) is
the first blueliner to earn the league award this season and receives the
award for the second time in her career, having been named the league's
player of the week Nov. 29, 1999, following a school-record five-assist
performance in a 7-1 win over Minnesota State, Mankato.
This past weekend, Kennedy led the Gophers to 6-1 and 8-5 wins over
Bemidji State, extending Minnesota's winning streak to eight games and its
WCHA unbeaten streak to 12 games.
Over the weekend, she scored two goals and six points to go with a
plus/minus rating of plus-four. She was not on the ice for any of Bemidji
State9s six goals in the series.
Kennedy is also one of Minnesota's two nominees for this year's Patty
Kazmaier Award and the only player at her position on the list of nominees.

Women*s Hockey Ties #2 UMD Again

Madison, Wis. - Meghan Hunter (Oil Springs, Ont.) scored on a rebound during a scramble at 18:18 of the third period to give Wisconsin (15-5-5, 9-4-5 WCHA) its third straight tie and fourth consecutive overtime game in a 2-2 game against second-ranked Minnesota-Duluth (19-4-3, 11-4-3) at the Alliant Energy Center on Sunday.
In yesterday*s contest, special teams favored the Badgers with a power-play and short-handed goal. In today*s contest, UMD controlled special teams, scoring twice on the power play.
At 5:31 Erika Holst scored with the player-advantage, capitalizing on a fortunate bounce. Sanna Peura attempted a cross-ice pass from the right boards. The puck bounced off a player on the way and back to Holst on the right side. The net was empty with Jackie MacMillan (Buffalo, Minn.) already across her crease. Satu Kiipeli also assisted the play.
Steph Millar (Hudson, Wis.) evened the game with her sixth goal of the season at 16:30. Kerry Weiland (Palmer, Alaska) forced a turnover just outside the UMD blue line, shuffling the puck ahead to Kendra Antony (Yorkton, Sask.). The right wing passed to a cutting Millar in the slot, who redirected the puck inside the far right post for the score.
The Bulldogs would regain the lead at 2:13 when Hanne Sikio notched the team*s second power-play tally. Sikio took a cross ice pass from Holst before finding the net. Kiipeli earned her second assist of the game on the play.
The Badgers were outshot badly through the first two periods, with UMD recording 26 to Wisconsin*s 12. The Badgers would finish the game with a 40-23 shot deficit, but with time winding down in the third period, the UW found a way to score.
After Antony put the puck on goal, Weiland stopped a clearing attempt at the blue line. The defenseman fired a shot that Tuula Puputti stopped. Karen Rickard (Bowmanville, Ont.) took a second shot that was again stopped. Weiland reached for the rebound, but the puck went off her stick to Hunter, who finally chipped it past the goaltender for the tying goal.
*When you talk about a young team and the culture we*re trying to create, our cornerstones are work-ethic, intensity, passion and drive,* said head coach Trina Bourget. *You have to have that. The best teams have to keep battling back no matter what. This is a team that doesn*t quit. They*ve got all the characteristics of a team that can go places.*
MacMillan made 38 saves and now stands 13-5-5 on the season. Puputti stopped 21 shots and is now 19-2-3.
*For the most part it was a back and fourth game,* said MacMillan. *In the overtime we had more scoring opportunities, it just didn*t go into the net. We are happy with the tie, but it would have been nice to get the win. We showed every team that we can play with any team in the country.*
Wisconsin completes a three-series home stand next week when No. 1 Dartmouth (18-1-1) visits the Alliant Energy Center. The one-game series is Saturday, Feb. 10 at 1:05 p.m.
