Bourget Hired As Permanent Head Women's Ice Hockey Coach
Vizenor Kept On As First Assistant

MADISON, Wis. - After spending the 2000-01 women's ice hockey season as the interim head coach of the University of Wisconsin Badgers, Trina Bourget (pronounced Bor-JAEY) has been named the head coach, Associate Athletic Director Cheryl Marra announced today. Bourget, 28, will have a starting salary of $65,000. Also hired today was first assistant coach Jeff Vizenor, who joined the Badgers when Bourget took over as interim head coach prior to the start of the 2000-01 season. Vizenor, 32, will have a starting salary of $42,000. Current assistant coach Tracey Cornell rounds out the staff as the second assistant and will make $36,000.
Bourget continues the construction of the women's hockey program after leading the second-year Badgers to a 21-9-5 mark during the 2000-01 season and a 13-6-5 WCHA mark for third place in league standings. The Shrewsbury, Mass., native helped the Badgers to a final ranking of seven in both the U.S. College Hockey Online Poll and USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Polls. Bourget came to Madison after a highly successful two-year tenure as head coach of the Division III Sacred Heart University women's hockey team. She was named the 1999 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC)/Koho Coach of the Year after guiding her team to a second-place finish in the ECAC Tournament. She led the Pioneers, who were in just their third year of competition, to a No. 8 national Division III ranking and a 15-4-3 record.
Prior to her coaching position at Sacred Heart, Bourget was an assistant coach of the Girls' Hockey team at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in Massachusetts as well as the assistant field hockey coach at Shrewsbury High School.
Bourget played collegiately at the University of New Hampshire and helped her squad to the ECAC Division I Championship in 1991. She has also had over 11 years of officiating experience.
Bourget earned her bachelor of science degree from New Hampshire in 1994 in family and consumer studies
"I would like to thank the University of Wisconsin for giving my staff and I the opportunity to continue to cultivate its women's hockey program," said Bourget. "This past season was an exciting time for our players, and we are eager to build upon our team's current success."
Vizenor arrived on campus after two years as the head coach at NCAA Division III St. Mary's University in Winona, Minn. He coached the Cardinals to a 34-13-5 mark and two consecutive Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) regular season co-titles. The 1998-99 MIAC Coach of the Year, Vizenor had his St. Mary's squad ranked as high as No. 2 nationally during the 1999-00 campaign.
Before his stint with St. Mary's, the Rogers, Minn., native coached the St. Cloud Icebreaker girls to an 18-4-0 inaugural season and had been coaching boys' high school hockey since 1990. He coached as an assistant at St. Cloud Apollo High School until 1993, then moved on to an assistant position at Mora High School in Mora, Minn., helping the squad to a berth in the state tournament in 1995-96. He was voted the 1995-96 Section 2 Assistant Coach of the Year for the effort. He completed his high school coaching experience at St. Cloud's Technical High School as an assistant for the 1996-97 season.
Vizenor earned his bachelor of science degree in social studies education from St. Cloud State in 1992 where he also earned his coaching certificate. Vizenor lives in Madison and is married to wife, Amy.

http://www.superrink.com/worlds/

For a Canadian Women's Hockey fan it is hard to believe that for a Team
USA game in the US there was only 581 fans. That was the most at any
game yet. I guess we are spoiled in Canada where we have had as much as
18,000 fans for a women's exhibition game. I guess we will have to wait
for all the Canadian Fans to arrive on the weekend to add to the
spectators.

Be sure to check out the official web site of the CHA:
