Badgers Sweep St. Cloud 6-2

Madison, Wis. -The Badger Women's Hockey Team defeated St. Cloud
State 6-2 Saturday at the Alliant Energy Center, in a repeat of Friday
night's match up. Kendra Antony (Yorkton, Sask.) scored the first two
goals and added two assists to the Badgers offense. Meghan Hunter
(Oil Springs, Ont.) had an encore performance with her second career
hat trick, and two more assists. The freshman added five points each
night bringing her total to 15 points.
The Badgers started out the first period with a goal from
Kendra Antony at 11:21. Antony received the puck at the far post from
Kerry Weiland (Palmer, Alaska), who beat St. Cloud in an end-to-end
rush of the ice. The Badgers scored again at 14:18, with assists from
Meghan Hunter and Sis Paulsen (Eau Claire, Wis.), when Antony broke
out from behind the defense in a 4-on-4 situation for the Badgers
second goal of the night.
"We talk about coming out strong in the first period," said
interim head coach Trina Bourget. "Kendra Antony opened up, she
really had a great afternoon.  I think that line is really connecting;
Millar, Hunter, and Antony."
Early in the second period the Badgers lead was threatened as
the UW turned it over and provided the opportunity for Ricki-Lee Doyle
to score on the power play at 3:06, bringing the score to 2-1.
The UW answered this challenge with Hunter's power play goal
on an assist from Sis Paulsen at 7:50 in the second. Three minutes
later at 10:50, Hunter put in her second goal of the night off the
rebound of teammate Antony. Hunter reinforced the Badgers lead with a
pass from Steph Millar (Hudson, Wis.) in the right corner out in front
for Hunter's natural hat trick at 13:56 in the second. Antony also
received an assist.
The Huskies scored at 17:19 to make it a 5-2 game when Roxanne
Stang wrapped around to beat UW goaltender Jackie MacMillan (Buffalo,
Minn.) through the legs. Rachel Denner received the assist.
At 12:11 in the third, with the UW on the power play, Weiland
took a slap shot from just inside the blue line to finalize the score
at 6-2.
"Our goal is to get consistency throughout the three periods
of play with solid hockey," said Bourget. "I think today was one of
those days that we were able to do that."
MacMillan made 15 saves and stepped up to 5-1-0 with
Saturday's win. Gieselman stopped 32 shots in St. Cloud's defeat.
The Badgers (5-1-0, 3-1-0 WCHA) face their next six games on
the road starting November 4 at 2:00 p.m. against Harvard, ranked
fifth. They also play the fourth-ranked team, Brown, on November 5 at
2:00 p.m.
