I was just looking for input from other leagues. Currently our
womens League does not have an age limit. Any player under 17 must have
parental consist. This is the only womens league in the province but
their is minor hockey. Do the other womens leagues have limits??

Thanks for your input

Hi,

Thanks for all the information. I am going to call up different arenas and
leagues to find out more about how I can learn and play hockey. But I am
wondering, how much will it cost to play? I just graduated from university
and my job doesn't pay very much. So, my budget is pretty tight. Can anyone
let me know the costs? Thanks so much.

We have an age limit (I think it is 18 and over) but there is a rule
that allows up to 4 underage players on a team.

Hi, I play in a youth league, but at least this will give you another set of prices. I think it just depends on who you play for or where you play. I pay:
$650- team fees
$30- Jersey fees (names and #s)
??- Equipment (it is so ranged that it isn't worth giving a price, depends on if you get it new/used/brand)
Plus we have: Tournament fees, hotel fees, extra ice fees, and probably more that I have yet to find out about :-) Not a cheap sport. Of course most teams often do fundraisers to help pay for it and whatnot. Ah well.

I'm not sure if this get through so I am sending it again:

I think it depends on your location. I think in Canada and the East coast, ice time may be cheaper than the rest of the U.S. because Canada has a lot more rinks. I am in Southern California so I'm probably in the most
expensive place to play.

I pay approximately $400.00 per season for an in-house, recreational league per season. This includes 20 games, plus playoffs. This does not include any practice ice time. Also, there is a $25.00 USA hockey memebership
fee per year that you have to have for insurance reasons.

If you do not have any equiptment yet, you are looking at between $200.00 - $800.00 depending on if you get used equiptment or new. Also, you could spend even more if you get the hottest, newest, flahiest, etc...
equiptment.) If you are new to the sport, I would suggest buying used except for a helmet and skates. Good fitting skates are eccential to have a good experience on the ice. A poorly fitting skate or one that has been
broken in too far, may drive you away from the sport.

If you decide to play for a travel team, then you are getting into a very serious committment for money. Travel expenses, hotels, rental car and food can add up to several thousand dollars at the elite level.

But if you want to play recreational hockey on an in-house team, you can expect between $10 to $20 per game to play.

I think it's totally worth it. I just eat at home more often. :)

Our organization charges $295CDN for a season of girls' house league (about
20 weeks of a practice and a game every week), with opportunities to recoup
some of the cost by working bingos or helping with other fundraising.
That's probably about half to two-thirds of the cost per player - the rest
is covered by bingos and other fundraising. (If this sounds low, our ice
time - all in municipal facilities - is approximately $100CDN per hour.)

For families who want more hockey than that (playing on a select team in
the next-older house league, going to tournaments, etc), it can get quite a
bit more expensive.

Louise
(who wasn't really trying to recruit ... but does have room for more players)

Here in Christchurch, New Zealand I pay NZ$150 (US$60) for the
women's league + NZ$70 (US$28) federation fees per season (April-
October). Ice time is NZ$140 (US$56) per hour. If we aren't
playing the whole season it's NZ$10 (US$4) per game and NZ$5
(US$2) per practice. Other leagues are about the same. We could
always use a few imports if anyone is thinking of moving now!
