Women's Hockey Badgers Earn Tie With No. 3 Minnesota

Middleton, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin earned a point and
moved into sole possession of second place in the Western Collegiate
Hockey Association with its 4-4 tie against defending national
champion Minnesota on Saturday at Capitol Ice Arena. Karen Rickard
(Bowmanville, Ont.) led the Badger attack with two goals in the
contest.
It was Rickard putting the Badgers on the board first, just
1:51 into the game. Kerry Weiland's (Palmer, Alaska) point shot
changed direction off Rickard's stick and past Minnesota's Erica
Killewald.
Kelly Kegley (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) gave the Badgers a
two-goal lead at 7:29. Michelle Sikich (Apple Valley, Minn.) took the
puck behind the goal to the left and centered to Kegley open in the
slot. Kegley went back to the left with a two-foot high wrist shot for
her fifth goal of the season.
Minnesota cut into the lead before the end of the period when
Courtney Kennedy stick-handled around a charging UW defender at the
blue line and skated into the slot before firing past the UW's Jackie
MacMillan (Buffalo, Minn.).
Ambria Thomas brought the Gophers even in the second with the
game's only power-play goal. LaToya Clarke slid the puck through the
crease to Thomas waiting on the far post for the easy finish. The goal
came at 2:20 of the second period.
Meghan Hunter (Oil Springs, Ont.) helped Wisconsin regain the
lead at 16:34 with a wrist shot from the high slot after Weiland broke
up a play at the Badger blue line with a poke check, forcing the puck
to the stick of Hunter.
Thomas tied the game less than a minute later at 17:29
converting a pass from Laura Slominski, but Rickard took just 23
seconds to put Wisconsin back on top. Sikich set Rickard at the center
of the blue line before the frosh skated in and slapped the puck in at
17:52.
Minnesota's Friday night hero Nadine Muzerall would be the
hero again for the Gophers. The forward forced a turnover deep in the
Badger zone, quickly slapping the puck over MacMillan's shoulder at
5:55 of the third to make it a 4-4 contest.
MacMillan stands at 8-3-2 between the pipes after making 21
saves in the game. Killewald made 23 saves and now sits at 8-2-1.
	Seventh-ranked Wisconsin (9-3-2, 6-2-2 WCHA) continues its
three-week homestand next weekend with a pair of games against MSU,
Mankato (1-10-1, 0-9-1). The Badgers and Mavericks meet Saturday and
Sunday at the Alliant Energy Center Coliseum at 1:05 p.m.

Just saying hello to the list! I haven't posted in a
long time, except for my lil mess up a while ago. Im
turning 18 in about 3 weeks.....and for the first time
since I was 4 I'm not playing hockey. I don't really
miss it as much as I thought I would, but I'm not
planning on playing til Im done college now, so
hopefully in 3 1/2 years I'll be missing it and want
to play again!!

I am helping coach a girls squirt B hockey team up
here in Minnesota
(http://www.angelfire.com/mn2/MankatoMavericks) and it
is a lot of fun. We are currently 1-1 in league play.
We have a tournament in Winona, MN next weekend. How
is everyone else's season starting off so far?
