One thing that can keep your mouthguard from seeming icky is to soak it in a
denture-cleaning solution, like Efferdent or Polident. I use the Efferdent
minty Listerine tablets and just soak it overnight in a little container on
the sink. Then the next time I wear it, it tastes minty.

I wash my mouthgaurd with liquid soap and warm water after each use.
If I have time, I try to do it at the rink right after the game.

Also, every week, I take out my foam chin rest from my face shield and wash
that with soap and water. If I don't, my face breaks out after a couple of
weeks.

Just out of curiousity, what is the attached mouthpiece recommended over the
other? The only reason I could think of is a potential choking hazard.

Thanks,

WITCHGER LEAVING GOPHER WOMEN'S HOCKEY STAFF

University of Minnesota women's assistant hockey coach Libby Witchger, a
member of the Gopher women's hockey staff since 1997, is resigning her
position, effective Nov. 27, and leaving the coaching profession to return
to school. A search for her replacement will begin immediately.

Witchger, the first assistant coach hired by head coach Laura Halldorson,
was primarily responsible for coaching the team9s goalies. In that role, she
was instrumental in developing senior Erica Killewald, who led the nation in
goals against average and save percentage in 1999 and was named the MVP of
the American Women's College Hockey Association National Championship last
season.

Womens Hockey Traps Beavers

Bemidji, Minn. Six different Badgers scored goals, including Stephanie Boeckmann (St. Cloud, Minn.) and Melanie Schmitt (Sheboygan, Wis.) each collecting their first of the season, as Wisconsin shutout Bemidji State, 8-0, at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse on Friday. Goaltender Jen Neary (Dallas, Texas) earned her first win of the season with the shutout.
"We talked about last weekend and some of the things that we needed to work on," said Head Coach Trina Bourget. "I think when our team plays well we are playing well by the fore-checking we are doing and playing aggressive and playing our system. Our third line was doing it really well in the Ohio State series and I wanted to reward them tonight by starting the game and setting the tone and it carried through the game."
The Badgers used the power play to score first as Meghan Hunter (Oil Springs, Ont.) slid a pass from the corner to Karen Rickard (Bowmanville, Ont.) in the slot. Rickard shot past BSU Goaltender Bre Dedrickson for her third of the season, 2:50 into the contest. Kendra Antony (Yorkton, Sask.) received the second assist.
Third-liner Steph Boeckmann (St. Cloud, Minn.) made it a 2-0 game at 18:32 of the first period, scoring her first career goal. The frosh found the puck just across the red line along the boards, stickhandled through a pair of Beaver defeseman and slid the puck just inside the right post for the goal.
"We a lot of scoring chances early on and Dedrickson made some great saves and kept them in the game for a while," Bourget said. "Eventually we broke her down. I was happy to see a lot of people contribute to the scoring production tonight."
Wisconsin scored three more times in the second, with the first from Sis Paulsen (Eau Claire, Wis.). Paulsen picked up the puck in the neutral zone, skated over the blue line and fired a shot from the top of the left face-off circle for the goal. Hunter added what was the most spectacular of the night, winning a face-off through the legs of the BSU center, picking up the puck on the other side and skating across the slot before back-handing it up over the goaltender.
Schmitt made it 5-0 by forcing a turnover in front of Bemidji*s goal and finding the loose puck for the third linemss second goal of the game. All second period goals came unassisted.
The Badgers closed out the scoring with three more in the third. Kerry Weiland (Palmer, Alaska) scored the first from Hunter. The frosh Hunter scored the final two, one on the power play and the second short handed. The short-handed tally was the first of the season for the Badgers and gave the center her third hat trick and five-point game of the season.
Neary stopped 19 shots in her first extended action of the season, improving to 1-0-0 for the 2000-01 campaign. Dedrickson turned away 49 Wisconsin shots in falling to 3-6-0 on the season. The Badgers 57 shots registered are a team record.
"Neary did a great job to keep the shutout," added Bourget. "It was an all-around great team effort."
The Badgers (8-2-1, 5-1-1 WCHA), ranked fourth in the latest USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Poll, face the same Beavers (4-9-0, 3-4-0) tomorrow at 7:35 p.m.

Bemidji, Minn. * Wisconsin women*s hockey earned a sweep and moved within one point of first place with a 14-4 victory over Bemidji State at John S. GlasFieldhouse on Saturday.
Like she did last night, Karen Rickard (Bowmanville,Ont.) put the Badgers on the board first with a power-play goal. Rickard received a pass from Meghan Hunter (Oil Springs, Ont.), who stood on the right side of the goal when she sent the puck behind the net to Rickard. The frosh then stuffed it just inside the left post at 13:29 for the score.
Hunter made it 2-0 by forcing a turnover at the blue line and going in for a breakaway and her 19th goal of the season. The unassisted goal came at 16:16.
Kelly Kegley (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) added a third goal for the UW in the first when she took a pass from Natascha Sherman (Seattle, Wash.) at the 16:41mark. Sherman skated into the offensive zone along the boards and found Kegley in front from behind the goal line.
The UW exploded for seven goals in the second period. Sherman scored her first two goals of the season in the period, with Kerry Weiland (Palmer, Alaska) adding two, and Sis Paulsen (Eau Claire, Wis.), Stephanie
Boeckmann (St. Cloud, Minn.) and Hunter each scoring. Sophomore Gretchen Anderson (Minneapolis, Minn.) highlighted third-period action with her first career goal. Also scoring in the period were Kelly Kegley (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), Kendra Antony (Yorkton, Sask.) and Hunter. Meghan Hunter finished the night with her fourth hat trick of the season and upped her goal total to 21. She also recorded a new team record eight points with five assists in the game. Hi, all -- this is somewhat of topic, but might be of interest to
some of you. I've been contacted about a possible promotional
opportunity for athletes involving the 2002 winter olympics. If you
want more info, you can look at it on our hockeyfanz site:

We got about 15 responses to the women's referee area, so we've gone
ahead and created a topic in the forums for this. You can get to it
using this URL:

If there's enough interest, we'll split it out into it's own
multi-topic discussion area.

You might also be interested in a site we were sent a pointer to
called The Official's Room -- it's a resource site that keeps
pointers to all sorts of intersting things for ice and inline
officials. If you want more info on it, you can get it from
