GOPHERS EXTEND UNBEATEN STREAK TO 18 GAMES WITH WIN OVER BADGERS

Minnesota (27-5-2, 20-2-1 WCHA) got a five-point effort from Laura Slominski
and cruised to an 11-3 win over Wisconsin (18-11-2, 15-7-1).

Slominski recorded her first career hat trick and added a pair of assists to
lead the Gophers to their 18th game in a row without a loss.

Nadine Muzerall scored a pair of goals, including the game's first at 2:14
of the first period, to extend her point-scoring streak to 18 games. She has
scored goals in 17 of those and has 33 goals and 47 points during that
stretch.

Minnesota also got a boost from the return of Winny Brodt. A nominee for the
Patty Kazmaier Award, Brodt missed 11 games after suffering two fractured
vertebrae in January. She had a goal and two assists Saturday.

In all 13 of the Gophers' 17 skaters scored points, including Alyson
Sundberg, who notched her first career goal at 4:29 of the second period.

Minnesota held a 38-33 edge in shots on goal. Erica Killewald had 30 saves
for the Gophers while Jackie MacMillan and Jennifer Neary combined for 27
saves for Wisconsin.

The two teams meet again Sunday at 2:05 p.m. at Mariucci Arena.

Wisconsin Falls To No. 3 Minnesota

Minneapolis, Minn. - Sis Paulsen (Eau Claire, Wis.) had a goal and an assist to lead the Badger women's hockey team, but Wisconsin fell 11-3 to No. 3 Minnesota at Mariucci Arena Saturday.

On goals by Nadine Muzerall, the nation's leading goal scorer, Tracy Engstrom and Ambria Thomas, Minnesota finished the first period leading 3-0.

Two goals by Laura Slominski, and one each by Alyson Sundberg, Winny Brodt and Muzerall upped the Gopher lead to eight, before Paulsen broke the ice for UW. Kelly Kegley's (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) shot was stopped, but Paulsen scored on the rebound at 16:01 of the second period. Natascha Sherman (Seattle, Wash.) got the second assist on the play.

Bridget Buchholz (Waupun, Wis.) scored with help from Kendra Antony (Yorkton, Sask.) less than two minutes later at 17:53 to make it a six-goal game.

"I think the biggest thing for us is that we didn't quit," coach Julie Sasner said. "We were kind of shell-shocked coming out in the first period, but we got our power plays together and generated some good chances off the forecheck."

Halting any thoughts of a Badger comeback, the Gophers opened the third period with Slominski's third goal of the game at the 1:45 mark. Minnesota's Kennedy sisters, Courtney and Shannon, gave the Gophers an 11-2 lead with goals at 9:08 and 14:32.

Michelle Sikich (Apple Valley, Minn.) notched a power-play goal at 17:16 for her 16th goal of the season. Paulsen and Antony both got assists on the play. Sikich's goal extended her point-scoring streak to 11 games.

"They just completely overpowered us in our own zone," Sasner said. "There is never a good 11-3 loss, but that is as good as it gets. I am happy that everyone is healthy and we'll be ready to go tomorrow."

Jackie MacMillan (Buffalo, Minn.) stopped 16 shots before being replaced by Jen Neary (Dallas, Texas), who made 11 saves in just over a period and a half of action. U of M netminder Erica Killewald stopped 30 saves in the win.

Wisconsin (18-11-2, 15-7-1 WCHA) closes out its inaugural regular season tomorrow against the same Minnesota team. The No. 3 Gophers (27-5-1, 20-2-1) are unbeaten in their last 18 contests.

Subject: Helmet padding

So I was putting my equipment into my bag a couple of minutes ago, and
noticed that some of the padding in my helmet is coming unglued. So I was
wondering what I should do. What kind of glue should I use, or should I take
it into the hockey shop and have them take care of it, or what?
Thanks

Jennie
