Kegley leads Badgers over Mavericks

Mankato, Minn. - Kelly Kegley (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) had four points, including her third hat trick of the season, and Sis Paulsen (Eau Claire, Wis.) added a goal and three assists as the Wisconsin women's hockey team defeated Minnesota State, Mankato, 6-2 at the Midwest Wireless Civic Center Friday.

Paulsen scored the first of three Badger power play goals when she took a cross-ice feed from Kerry Weiland (Palmer, Alaska) at 16:16 of the first period. Kegley also got credit for an assist on the first goal of the game.

Kegley scored at 9:51 of the second period for her first of the game. Paulsen's point shot banked off the post and onto Kegley's stick for the easy finish. Leslie Toner (Wausau, Wis.) also asssisted on the second power play goal for the Badgers.

Michelle Sikich (Apple Valley, Minn.) scored the eventual game winner and made it 3-0 when she stuffed in the rebound of a Weiland point shot at 18:29 of the second period. Paulsen got her third point of the game with the second assist on Sikich's power play goal.

Kegley scored two goals early in the third period to complete her hat trick. She tallied an unassisted goal at 48 seconds and scored again at 2:06 with help from Paulsen to increase her team-leading season total to 22 goals. Kegley has 14 goals in a seven game, goal-scoring streak.

"Kelly had a great effort with the hat trick," coach Julie Sasner said.

After the Mavericks made it a 5-1 game with a power play goal by Ashleigh Miller, Sikich closed out the Badgers' scoring after a scramble in front of the net. Natascha Sherman (Seattle, Wash.) and Kendra Antony (Yorkton, Sask.) recorded the helpers.

Ashleigh Miller scored her second power play goal at 19:28 for the Mavericks to make the final score 6-2.

"One of our keys to success today was that we were able to stop them from penetrating our zone like they were able to do the first series we played them," Sasner said. "Our defense did a great job of standing them up at the blue line. Our forwards did a good job of coming back and negating their defense."

The Badger power play went 3-for-4, remaining hot after registering 33 power play shots in their previous game. The Mavericks went 2-for-5 with the extra player.

"We went 3-for-4 on the power play and it was a goal of ours to do well in that area," Sasner said. "It was a solid effort and we'll be back tomorrow."

UW goaltender Jackie MacMillan (Buffalo, MN) increased her winning streak to 10 games and her unbeaten string to 11 with 31 saves. The freshman is now 11-3-1 on the season. Jennie Padgett drops to 2-11-1 with her 32 save effort.

The Badgers (17-10-2 overall, 14-6-1 WCHA) will meet the Mavericks (8-18-2, 3-14-2) again tomorrow and will look to improve on their season best seven game winning streak. The game begins at 2:05 p.m at the Midwest Wireless Civic Center.

Subject: Re: Hipcheck

I just rejoined the list after starting a new account on AOL. I've been
reading the comments here about this situation and would like to add my two
cents on the Hipcheck subject.

>>The subscription price was very small, it was certainly worth the issues I
did get.>>>

Small subscription price, small subscrpition! It was only 6 issues a year!
For what materials they used to publish the magazine, they were still making
money on each issue! I was mailed a notice with a request for renewal in May,
the last month of the magazine. I sent in payment, it was cashed, Hipcheck
disappeared. Small subscription price or not, they solicited for a defunct
magazine and STOLE money from me!

>>The magazine has restructured before and did eventually republish. It may
do so again, and trying to get the BBB on them for fraud isn't going to help
them nor will it get your money back if they really have gone under.
Frankly, along with
many others who have posted, I'm grateful that they put in the effort at
all. I thought they did a great job.>>>

I'm with the others here who think reporting these people is the way to go.
The fact of the matter here is that regardless of whether or not money is
refunded, these people will be placed on a "blackball" list in the FBI
computers, and computers like them in Canadaq, and will run into problems if
they try doing this again!

It seems there is a "Sheldon Kennedy" type mentality here on the list where
everyone thinks it's perfectly fine to get abused just because someone is
doing something for the game they love to play! In other words, Hipcheck can
steal from us because they are a women's hockey magazine and we play women's
hockey! You people are something!

>>To prove fraud you have to show they intended to deceive you by selling you
a magazine they never intended to publish, which is not the case.<<<

Simply put here, go to Andria's website (http://www.whockey.com/hipcheck) and
take a look at Hipchecks webpage. It's still up and it's still soliciting for
more subscribers! Andria's site is the most browsed site on the web for the
game so think of how many people are seeing this information and sending in
their money from all over the world! If that's not fraud, what is?

>>yeah -- but I'll be reasonable about this. Any of you wh've been
jumping on Hipcheck on the list recently who really, honestly feels
that the $12 you've lost is that serious an issue, email me your
address privately. I'll write you a check for $12 and eat your losses
for you -- but you have to agree to shut up and quit talking about
Hipcheck on the list. The silencing of the whining is more than worth
sending out a couple of checks if that's what it takes.

>>No offense, all, can we get back to something more productive on the
list? I think the Hipcheck stuff has been hashed over pretty
completely, and there's not a lot new to say worth saying.<<

I was waiting for the Gestapo General to chime in. Well Chuq, if this isn't
worthy of a discussion on your list then what is??!! I guess useless amounts
of info from college games that nobody cares about is? Maybe those "my
equipment stinks" posts are better! This "I'll take my list and go home"
tatic is old! This is a valid discussion about something serious. It's about
STEALING!! Why is it so bad when a few people want to see what others have to
say (maybe someone else has updated info) about a situation like this and try
to recover what is rightfully theirs!? Please!

I agree here that this magazine was on solid footing until Kelly Connelly was
forced out! Things were done with the subscriber in mind and information was
posted all the time about the zine! I am totally for the people who suggested
what they did and will support them in any way. I play hockey like alot of
people on here but that certainly doesn't make STEALING and FALSE ADVERTISING
ok in my book! You people need to smell what you're shoveling!

Don't worry, Gruppenfuher, this will be my last post to your precious list on
this subject! I'll go back to my "read only" ways....unless you're a coward
and remove me for expressing my opinions!

Sincerely....
Kelly J.

Subject: Skate Rivets

My 13 year old has the smallest feet in the world. She has been in a pair
of Bauer 5000 for 2 years and they still fit well. They are in great shape
with the exception of the rivets. She also has to tape and treat the toes
every once in a while. Every few weeks we have to have one or two rivets
redone. Becasue of the quality materials, the boot has not broken down.
The kid skates like an animal, and I am concerned that she will pop a
couple of rivets and break an ankle one day. She loves these skates. I
even found the same pair on the web and offered them to her, but she said
no. How dangerous is this situation. Should I put up and shut up or force
a new pair of skates on an unwilling teen.

MUZERALL SCORES TWICE AS GOPHERS HOLD OFF BULLDOGS FOR 14TH STRAIGHT WIN

Nadine Muzerall scored a pair of goals in the second period and Minnesota
(24-5-0, 17-2-0 WCHA) after leading 4-1, held on to post a 4-3 win for its
14th consecutive victory over Minnesota-Duluth (19-3-2, 17-1-1).

With the win, the fourth-ranked Gophers pulled to within a point of the
fifth-ranked Bulldogs in the conference standings.

After Erika Holst scored just 1:05 into the opening period for UMD,
Minnesota responded with a pair of goals in the final four minutes of the
stanza, with Betsey Kukowski scoring at 16:03 and Laura Slominski at 18:57
on the power play.

Muzerall made it 3-1 with her 100th career goal at 4:34 of the second
period. The goal also extended her goal-scoring streak to 14 games. Her
unassisted breakaway goal barely two minutes later, her 39th of the season,
proved to be the game-winner.

Holst scored 4-on-4 for her second of the game at 7:20 of the final period
and Michelle McAteer's power-play goal with 6:38 to play cut the margin to
one goal.

Gopher goalie Crystal Nicholas kept the hosts at bay over the final six
minutes, however, finishing with a career-high 38 saves. UMD's Tuula Puputti
has 29 saves.

The two teams battle for first place in the league standings on Saturday at
7:05 p.m. at Pioneer Hall.

Have you tried using brass rivots. My skates had several rivots that kept
falling out and they wher replaced with brass rivots until I got new skates.
They may cost a little more, but they last longer.

Well, heck, Kelly, too bad you just rejoined the list and missed all
the discussion. Because there's been a lot of it, and I sure didn't
say anything about people calling it until it got way too emotional
and repetitive. It sure was appropriate about the first four times
people had tehir say, but after that, all it gets is annoying.

If you don't like the way we run the list, be our guest and go start
your own somewhere else.

And please note something -- if we really ran things in a
Gestapo-like fashion, we wouldn't give you the option or staying or
leaving. And I'm offended at your attack on us. if we pulled a stunt
like that on you, you'd have a real cow. I suggest you look in a
mirror before you say something like that again. I'm not amused.

I personally witnessed an ankle fracture from a rivet giving way. The
unfortunate soul this happened to wasn't even skating hard yet. She was
coasting around the bench at the end of a warm up before a game. She
sustained a boot top fracture that put her off the ice for more than a year.
Add up the cost of ER visit, orthopedist visits, HMO deductible, and the
insufferable whining from hockey withdrawal (priceless!). If it's cheaper
than a new pair of skates, I say stick with the old ones (ticking bombs).

I would be driving you to the store if you were offering to buy ME new

Women's Hockey sweeps MSU, Mankato

Mankato, Minn. - Sis Paulsen (Eau Claire, Wis.) had her second four-point game in as many days, and notched her second hat trick of the season to help the Wisconsin women's hockey team win its eighth straight in a 6-1 win over MSU, Mankato on Saturday.

"We're pleased, obviously, with the results and the sweep," coach Julie Sasner said. "Special teams were key with one short-handed goal and three power-play goals."

The Badgers fell behind 1-0 at the 2:40 mark of the first period. Jackie MacMillan (Buffalo, Minn.) stopped an initial shot by Cara Samuelson, but Erin Hafermann pounced on the rebound for the score.

Kendra Antony (Yorkton, Sask.) evened the score with a breakaway goal at 14:38. Kerry Weiland (Palmer, Alaska) sent Antony on her way to her 20th goal of the season. Leslie Toner (Wausua, Wis.) got the second assist on the play.

Paulsen gave Wisconsin the lead early in the second period at 2:06. The freshman fired the puck from just outside the Maverick blue line, which deflected off a Maverick defender and past goaltender Jennie Padgett. Gretchen Anderson (Minneapolis, Minn.) got the assist on the play.

Toner increased the Badger lead to two goals with a power-play tally at 9:47. Weiland sent the puck along the blue line to Paulsen, whose shot deflected off Toner and in.

Paulsen scored her second of the game on the power play from Michelle Sikich (Apple Valley, Minn.) at 13:33. Paulsen got the puck on the side of the Maverick goal before skating it in front and putting it home for a 4-1 Badger lead.

Kelly Kegley (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) scored a power-play goal at 15:26 of the third to keep her goal-scoring streak alive at eight games. MacMillan sent the puck to Kegley from the UW goal line to the Mavericks' blue line and got credit for the first goaltender assist in Badger history.

Paulsen closed out the scoring with her first short-handed goal of the season, and 14th overall to complete the hat trick. Kegley assisted on the play at 17:56.

"Sis is a player that has played well all season and it's great to see her with the hat trick," Sasner said. "She's one of our top defensive players, and one of our top offensive players as well. She's having a great season and has shown a lot of leadership."

MacMillan made 25 saves to earn the win and continue her winning streak, which is now at 11 games. The freshman also has a 12-game unbeaten streak and has given up no more than two goals during that span. Padgett made 18 saves in falling to 2-12-1.

Wisconsin (18-10-2, 15-6-1 WCHA), in the midst of an eight-game winning streak, is off next week before traveling to Minneapolis, Minn., and Mariucci Arena for the final series of the season. The Badgers square off against No. 4 Minnesota in the two-game series on Feb. 26-27 at 2:05 p.m.
