Sunohara, Hefford and Diduck scored in 3.5 minutes to give Canada a 5-0 lead
over a terribly overmatched and terribly tired and just plain terrible USA
side. Shots are more than two to one for Canada. Stand by for the third
period.

At the end of the second period it is 5 to 0 for
Canada. The usual play does not seem to be here
tonight for the Americans. Their game seems to be a
little lacking and Whitten is having too much work.

Sami Jo Small gets the shutout, 6 different players score for Canada in
front of 15,000 fans at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Back to the
drawing board for the States, but then they've been known to "play possum"
before and come back when it counts...

GOPHERS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO 11TH WITH VICTORY OVER BUCKEYES

Nadine Muzerall scored two goals, extending her goal-scoring streak to 11
games, and Minnesota, 21-5-0 (14-2-0 WCHA), overcame an early goal by Ohio
State, 4-21-2 (4-13-2 WCHA), to post a 4-1 victory for its 11th consecutive
win.

After Shana Frost gave the Buckeyes the lead two minutes, 16 seconds into
the opening period, the Gophers responded with two goals in the first period
and two more in the second period.

Muzerall, who is now tied for the national lead in goal-scoring with 33, got
Minnesota even less than four minutes later and Ronda Curtin's power-play
goal, at 13:45, proved to be the game-winner.

The Gophers padded the lead with goals by Tracy Engstrom, at 1:31, and
Muzerall, a power-play at 11:00, in the second period before the teams
skated through a scoreless third period.

Shannon Kennedy, who set up Curtin's goal, recorded her 100th career point.

April Stojak made 22 saves for Ohio State while Erica Killewald had 18 for
Minnesota.

The two teams meet again Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Mariucci Arena.

I know this is picky, but I would be really happy if the game scores were
left out of the subject headings. I haven't seen the game yet...

Hi Susan:

Point taken. I'll leave the scores out and indicate "spoiler" in the subject
heading during the Worlds etc.. But since you're writing from Indiana and
are presumably a Team USA fan, I have to tell you, I wouldn't lose any sleep
waiting for your tape to arrive from Canada. There's nothing worth watching
if you're backing the Stars and Stripes.

MacMillan, Badgers Blank St. Cloud State

Madison, Wis. * Jackie MacMillan (Buffalo, Minn.) recorded her first career shutout with an 18-save performance to lead the Badger women*s hockey team to a 3-0 win over St. Cloud State at the Dane County Coliseum on Saturday.

MacMillan stopped three shots in the first, nine in the second and six more in the third for the shutout. It was the Badgers third shutout of the season, but the first for MacMillan, who improved to 9-3-1 with the win and extended her winning streak to eight games, and her unbeaten string to nine.

"Jackie MacMillan, again, came up big with the shutout," commented head coach Julie Sasner. "It was a big game for her.

Kelly Kegley (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) scored on the backhand, 10:27 into the first period to give the UW an early cushion. Melanie Schmitt (Sheboygan, Wis.) got an assist on the play.

"Nice to get off to a good start again today," said Sasner. "The last two games we have started strong, and that is important."

Sis Paulsen (Eau Claire, Wis.) made it a 2-0 game at 16:13 with the first of two Badger power-play goals. Kerry Weiland (Palmer, Alaska) beat a St. Cloud State defender at the blue line before setting up Paulsen. Michelle Sikich (Apple Valley, Minn.) was also credited with an assist on the play.

After a scoreless second period, Kegley scored her second of the game and team-leading 18th goal of the season with a power-play tally at 13:24 of the third. Kendra Antony (Yorkton, Sask.) and Sikich were given the assists. The Badgers fired four shots on St. Cloud*s Laura Gieselman from point-blank range before Kegley finally converted. The frosh extended her goal-scoring streak to five games, scoring 10 goals over that span.

St. Cloud State*s Laura Gieselman stopped 35 shots in defeat, falling to 7-11-2 on the season.

Wisconsin (15-10-2, 12-6-2 WCHA) completes its home schedule and looks to extend its season-long winning streak to six games tomorrow, when it plays host to the same St. Cloud State (9-14-2, 4-11-2 WCHA) team.

"We are getting people playing well at the right time," said Sasner. "We*ve gotten people relatively healthy now. Our team is coming together well and we have a lot of momentum coming off our last five games."
