MAINE DEFEATS WAYNE STATE 4-1 IN WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY
    WOLF TIES ALL-TIME SCORING RECORD

Orono, Maine- The University of Maine scored two third period goals to
break open a 2-1 game as it defeated Wayne State 4-1 Thursday night at
the Alfond Arena in womens ice hockey action. Maine improves to 6-7-0
on the season while Wayne State falls to 3-12-0.
Maine got on the board when Meagan Aarts (Watford, Ontario/Bluewater
Hawks) knocked in a Karen Droog (Listowel, Ontario/Peel Storm) shot
that had gone wide at 11:22 of the first period. Raffi Wolf (Voerde,
Germany/Gesamtschule am Laurhaas) scored the game winner for Maine at
17:39 as she tallied her fifth goal of the season. With the goal, Wolf
ties Alison Lorenz (UMaine 00) for the all-time career scoring lead
with 75 career points.
Wayne State scored the only goal of the second period when Joanie
Denby (Sterling Heights, Mich./Warren Mott) beat UMaine netminder
Amanda Cronin (York, Maine/New Hampton Prep) at 3:39 to cut the Maine
lead to 2-1.
The game remained 2-1 until Cindy Biron (Lewiston, Maine/New Hampton
Prep) registered her third goal of the season at 15:44 of the third
period. Droog scored her team leading eighth goal just over two minutes
later to put Maine up by two goals with just over two minutes to play
in the contest.
Maine had a decisive advantage in shots as it peppered Wayne State
netminder Anna VanderMarliere (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Plymouth Canton)
with 48 shots on goal. VanderMarliere made 44 saves for the Warriors.
Cronin stopped 13 of the 14 Wayne State shots that she faced.
These two teams will return to action on Saturday December 9, 2000 at
1:00 p.m. at Alfond Arena.

Women*s Hockey Endangers Eagles

Middleton, Wis. - The Badger blue liners led the women*s hockey team to an 8-1 win over visiting Boston College at the Capitol Ice Arena on Saturday. The defensive pair of Kerry Weiland (Palmer, Alaska) and Sis Paulsen (Eau Claire, Wis.) accounted for three goals and five assists in the win.
*Kerry Weiland got us on the board first,* head coach Trina Bourget said. * The defense did a nice job today. Sis Paulsen had three assists and a power-play goal. It was good to get that working. That was one of our strong areas last year, Sis Paulsen back-door on the power play.
Weiland put the Badgers ahead at 7:22 of the first period with a slap shot from the top of the left face-off circle. Her sixth goal of the season came unassisted.
Boston College evened the game at 11:08 when Kelly McManus redirected Genevieve Richar*s point shot after Jen Buckley moved the puck to the blue line.
The tie would be broken at 17:18 of the period when Meghan Hunter*s (Oil Springs, Ont.) wrist shot found the net for her 27th goal of the season and third game-winning goal. Paulsen had her first assist of the game on the play.
Karen Rickard (Bowmanville, Ont.) increased the lead to 3-1 when she finished a breakaway at 1:28 of the second period. Michelle Sikich (Apple Valley, Minn.) sent the frosh in for her 10th goal of the year. Paulsen also assisted the play.
Paulsen scored her sixth goal of the season at 19:00 of the period on the power play. Hunter found Paulsen cutting through the slot before the defender fired past BC netminder Amy Coletta. Weiland had the second assist on the play.
The Badgers added four more goals in the third period from Sikich, Steph Millar (Hudson, Wis.), Weiland and Liz Jankowski (Maple Grove, Minn.). For Jankowski, it was her first of the season. Sikich scored after taking a pass from Nicole Uliasz (Perkasie, Penn.) at 3:33. Millar*s goal came off the rebound from her own shot on the power play after Weiland and Paulsen touched the puck for assists.
Weiland would add her seventh of the year, as Jen Mead (Eau Claire, Wis.) set up her first goal of the season and Melanie Schmitt (Sheboygan, Wis.) also got credit for a helper.
Jankowski wrapped the scoring at 18:59 from Millar and Kendra Antony (Yorkton, Sask.). The sophomore had her first shot blocked before finishing.
Jackie MacMillan (Buffalo, Minn.) had a solid performance with 13 saves. She improves to 10-3-2. Coletta stopped 38 shots but fell to 2-8-0 with the loss.
*Our goal this season is to play two solid games back-to-back and today I think we achieved the first half of our goal,* commented Bourget. *The team came ready to play and played our game plan well.*
The seventh-ranked Badgers (12-3-2) look for the sweep over Boston College (2-12-0) tomorrow at the Capitol Ice Arena at 1:05 p.m.

TOP-RANKED DARTMOUTH DOWNS NO. 2 GOPHERS 5-1

HANOVER, N.H.--After a scoreless opening period, Dartmouth scored four times
in the second period and the top-ranked Big Green earned a convincing 5-1
win over second-ranked Minnesota.

Dartmouth got offensive production from each of its top three lines. After
grabbing a 1-0 lead on Carrie Sekela's power-play goal at one minutes, 20
seconds of the second period, the teams continued to battle evenly for the
next 13 minutes.

Dartmouth took a 2-0 lead when Kristina Guarino banked a shot of the back of
Minnesota goalie Erica Killewald's leg which opened the flood gates. The Big
Green scored two more goals in the next four minutes and, a short-handed
goal 1:19 into the third period, gave them a five-goal lead.

The Gophers got their only goal when Melissa Coulombe's shot from the left
point hit traffic in front of the net and deflected into the net for her
first career goal.

Killewald finished the game with 37 saves as Dartmouth held a 42-30
advantage in shot on goal, including a 15-4 margin during the first period.
Amy Ferguson had 29 saves for Dartmouth.
