In this area (the Pacific Northwest), the only college team I know about
is Washington State University's women's club team in Pullman, WA which
just started this year, and has played about three or four games. They
have ice time once a month, or something ridiculous like that. Other
than WSU, I don't think women's college teams exist here... I hope I'm
wrong about that, but I don't think so.

Well, Milton, I was holding back because the championship was just a little
too painful for us UNH fans to watch. It was a very close game that went
back and forth in terms of momentum thoughout the contest. Harvard scored
first but UNH came back to tie it up in the first period. Then Harvard
scored again and UNH came back to tie it up. Then Harvard scored again and
it was 3-2 in the third period. Then, near the end of the third period,
UNH scored twice very quickly--within about a minute--to pull ahead to 4-3
with only 2.5 minutes to go. The UNH crowd erupted. We had put up with
the stupid Harvard band and glee club the whole game and it was finally our
turn to cheer for a UNH lead--the first and only. But Harvard poured it
on offensively and scored to tie the game with just over a minute to go.
Angela Ruggiero passed from the point into Shewchuk who was parked alone by
the side of the crease to the right of Alicia Roberts and she just buried
it in the net to send the game into overtime. Well, it did not take long
into overtime for Harvard to get its chance with the puck bouncing around
in front of the net and then down right onto the stick of AJ Mleczko who
just flipped it top shelf over the sprawled Roberts.
It was not really a matter of Harvard dominating the game even though they
seemed to be the physically bigger team, because UNH had plenty of chances
down low that they just could not convert into goals. Harvard was not
particularly strong on defense and had trouble breaking it out of their end
against a tenacious forechecking press from the UNH forwards, including
your sister. Well, UNH will have a second chance to beat Harvard this
weekend at the National Championships in Minnesota. I think if they can
figure out how to tighten up the defensive coverage and finish their
offensive plays and opportunities by putting the puck past the Harvard
goalie, Springer, they can beat the formidable Harvard team. They very
nearly did it this past weekend.
GO BLUE!!
