Is it just me, or have the messages been unobjectionable and boring lately? I
think we need to spice up the list a little so why doesn't everybody type up a
personal experience they'd like to share with the group. I'll start us off.
I'd like to call this story Cammi Granato (for obvious reasons).

Actually I can't think of any stories to tell right now, but if I could I'd
call it Cammi Granato.. Why doesn't somebody else start us off and I'll
contribute later...

Couldn't agree with you more. I don't know where everybody who was up in
arms over S_____n M____r has gone over the last year, but with the Women's
World Hockey Championships just finished, I thought there'd be a little more
back and forth between the Canadian and US contingents.

I felt like I was sending postings about the tournament out into the void...

I have been warned by the list Master I would be kicked off the list if I mention her in anyway shape or form. You know that Phil. Big difference in team preparation this time round eh? Nice to see and hear in the press the behind the scenes story from the players this time instead of the coach. Very refreshing. I guess there wasn't a lot of chatter about the worlds this time because most of the list is American and they didn't do as well. Plus I guess the worlds are not as big a deal anymore now with the Olympics. Hey I would love to get into all that with people, but it's not really worth getting thrown off the list. Mind you it has been pretty dull lately. Hmmm.

People are saying that the list has been boring and I agree. Here's a
few questions that I would like to put out and get feeback on:

1) Do you think Team Canada won the World's Championship this year
because they were better prepared or was it just about goaltending from
both teams? (one being supreme, and the other mediocre)

2) Do you think that Daniel Savageau is a better coach then Shannon
Miller? And why? Other thoughts and comments welcomed.

3) Did you notice that Ben Smith wasn't even shot on film during the
TSN broadcast? If so, why do you suppose that was?

Well, I hope people can get into this, cause I'd sure like to hear
people's comments on these.

Los Angeles.

The most competitive female team here is the So. Cal. Rays.
They play at the "B" level.

One of thier girls is playing for RPI back East now.

Otherwise, the teams here, none of which are college, are
Recreation and C level.

I do not know much about Seattle.

Well to that I add: It's really hard to get excited about something that one
can only experience through the statistics being printed in an e mail. (though
those were certainly appreciated) If there were some TV coverage one might
have had some commentary. Were the world games broadcast anywhere and I just
didn't know?

Though there is natural rivalry between the teams from Canada and the USA, I
would hope there isn't personal animosity. Women's hockey certainly needs
solidarity without borders if it is going to prosper. IMHO We need to leave
the rivalry on the ice.

One of the semi-final games along with the gold medal game was broadcasted
on TSN in Canada. It's too bad that American stations didn't cover it as
well since I'm sure many people would have watched.

I think there must be some animosity on the part of some of the athletes
since they are each others main if not only good competition. Something to
note, Sue Merz who patrols the blueline for Team USA plays on a club team
with Canada's Vicky Sunahara, Laura Schuler, Karen Nystrom, Lori Dupuis
and Jayna Hefford. I wonder how much animosity there could possibly be
there.

The Canadian goaltending certainly helped, but I couldn't believe how
anonymous the US team was, both in the TSN Challenge and the Gold Medal
game. I got the feeling that some of their better players hadn't played for
a very long time. Hard for Cammi et al to keep tuned up, getting bits and
pieces of ice time when the LA Kings leave the ice. Our under 22 program is
a great idea. What the Americans do with women who've either finished
college (or not gone there in the first place) I don't know. For the future,
though, USA looks like they've got some adolescent girls who can really
play.

> 2) Do you think that Daniel Savageau is a better coach then Shannon
Miller? And why?

Strictly on coaching (whatever that is) I can't say, but it would seem that
Danielle lacks many of the character flaws/malevolence that made Shannon
such a disaster. Did you see the interview in which Danielle mentioned that,
this year, "the players weren't afraid to lose"? Quite significant, I think.
Also this year there were no indications that (ahem) inappropriate
relationships existed between staff and players.

It has been boring but I am sure that will change with Chanda back! The
problem with the World Championships are that there is so little news
around compared to the Olympics. Personnally I couldn't get at all
interested in it this year even though I am really involved in Women's
Hockey. I just chalked my lack of interest up to lack of news? I am also
surprised that with the ECAC Championships just completed and all the US
Regionals wrapped up that postings for news, comments, reports or whatever
would made the list busy? What's up?

Forgive me. I thought ESPN might pick up the games for you guys to the south of us. Our television gave us the semi final game and the final. They committed to both of those games months ago gambling that Canada would make it that far. You mean to tell me that after winning the gold medal at the Olympics only one year ago that still no one would televise your team at the worlds? That's incredible. Especially considering they wouldn't even have to have given up their coveted prime time slots. The games were at 7 am and 11 am EST respectively. Sorry to hear that. No wonder you guys didn't get so excited about them. As for animosity, no. Far from it. Good old fashioned rivalry maybe. I for one am very impressed with the US players and coaches. I think they are terrific. Best of luck in the future to them.

That's incredible.

I'm not too suprised (I'm American) Americans tend to be too obsessed with
(American) football to notice a *real* sport ;)

Yep! We were in as the Susquehanna Rockettes, but lots of
misunderstandings caused us to fold before the beginning of this season.
We were based in Harrisburg, but the Harrisburg rink kept screwing with us,
so we moved to Lancaster. (Which makes me happy--I live in Lancaster :)
Lancaster is about 30 minutes southeast of Harrisburg, and closer to the
other teams in the league.

>Do you play all year round?

We practice year round..right now we're just getting ready for the coming
season, but in the past we've played in a men's house league during the
off-season, so I imagine we'll be doing that again.

I agree. I take pride in my Canadian blood :) (My ancestors went to
Canada before a later generation moved south) And I keep saying that I'm
moving to Canada (Though I'm not very serious about it--I've never been to
Canada, but I want to go)

This is music to my ears!! I'm moving from Detriot to Waterloo in June...
I've found a league to play on there already (I wouldn't go anywhere I
couldn't play hockey!!) I'm kinda nervous about keeping up with everyone.
I've been playing hockey for 2 years, my first year I played defense and
this year I'm playing goalie. I'm pretty good considering the amount of
time I have been playing, (at least, that's what everyone says!) but I'm
still nervous.

I was really surprised and excited at how easy is was to find a league to
play on in Waterloo -- I'm going up there this weekend to check out the
area, I'll definitely be stopping by the hockey rink!!
