I live in Wisconsin Rapids, WI (about 2 hours away from Madison,WI).
There is a summer hockey camp in Wis. Rapids for girls (ages 12 to about
18). It runs every Tuesday and Thursday for the entire month of July (today
was the first day). The cost for the camp is $195. The sessions run from
11am to 2pm. We get 1 hour if dry-land and 1 1/2 hours of on-ice time. The
players there today range from no playing experience to three years playing
time and several players with 5-6 years (they are really helpful to the
beginners). The name of the camp is Winning Edge Hockey. The director is
Pat McDonald and there are other coaches from Wausau, River Falls, and a
couple of other towns. The majority of the girls are from Wisconsin Rapids
with 3-4 from Stevens Point. The phone number of Pat McDonald is
(715) 421-2015. He might still let you in the camp and maybe at a
discounted rate considering you would have missed at least day 1. There are
about 12-15 girls in our group now.

The other option for hockey in Wis. Rapids is "open hockey" being run on
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15-3:15 pm. The coach of the midget girls
team is renting ice on those days if he gets a minimum of 8 players per
session. Today (7-6-99) was the first day. The "open hockey" costs $8 per
session if there are eight players, if there are more then it will cost
less. He will not rent the ice if there aren't at least 7 players signed
up. Basically we scrimmage the entire hour. We only have one goalie, so
another would be helpfull. The teams are changed each session. There are
supposed to be five more sessions (the next five Tuesdays and Thursdays in
July). The person in charge of the "open hockey" is Tom Richenbacher I
don't have his phone number because he just moved. You can get it from
information (his addresse is on 26th Street North in Wisconsin Rapids).

I hope this helps you and anyone else in the central Wisonsin area that is
looking for a place to play hockey this summer (in at least July).

a future Augsburg College hockey player
