My problem is the same but different. I manage a girl's under 19 team with
4 seniors! ( I have considered begging a couple to go to school at home,
but one is my kid, and that would be just too awful.) We are going to have
a "Try Hockey" night, and hope to get a few girls to skate with the team
now for a few months and add them to the roster next year. As well, I am
talking to every girl player on our boy's teams and every figure skater who
is reaching the frustration point. Maybe they will give up spandex for
some extra padding. The core of our team cam from figure skating. These
girls can skate and have a fine understanding of aggression. Since we are
league, we cannot (legally) strip players from another team. I also find
that kind of low. One of the younger kid's on our team came into the
locker room after a game a few weeks ago and asked what "recruit" meant.
The opposing coach got an earful after that!

It is not surprising that mid-way through a season with a marginal coach
people begin to bail. You really have to stem the tide. Take the guys out
for dinner, feed them, make them feel better than the loosers who quit. A
little bonding goes a long way. Get the coach to work from his strengths,
should he have any. Promise the gentlemen a tournament in someplace good.
Mid-season everyone needs a boost.

Good luck.

Debbie

Can I assume that you are requesting that the mail list program do this
automatically?

I actually suggested this quite some time ago - to the list mom, privately.
The response was that I need to configure my browser to recognize anything
originating from women-in-hockey and add my own header. That was waaay too
geekie for me, so I gave it up.

Although it is a good idea. (I actually suggested it after my team's private
mail list started adding auto headers.)

Our team kinda has the same problem. We're only in
our second year, and have enough players to manage,
but the coaches want 1 or 2 more. We have a few
seniors on our team. We also have several 13-14 year
olds, but play midget cause we're the only team in
the area. Well, I dont really know the point of my
story, but I guess I would have to say is just hold
in there, and keep your eyes open or someone might
pass you by.

Before anyone gets in an argument over manually or
automatic, I just wanted to say that you have to put
a header in anyway, and adding 3 letters isnt too hard!

If you take a look at the FAQ pages of www.lists.plaidworks.com, we tell
you how to tell that messages come from one of our lists. there's
information in the headers you can filter on that we put there for this
purpose. Any client that has filtering or flagging capability should be
able to do so (and if yours doesn't, you need a mail client from this
century...)

Come on - how many messages from this list DON'T have something about
'hockey' or 'game' or 'team' in them?!!

I see the point though..I usually get about 40 messages each morning, and I
sort by subject. Because the other lists I subscribe to have headers, they
sort together, and I can read all one subject at once by paging through.

Subject: Comments wanted -Female Hockey Coaches

Thanks to all who provided information on women who play hockey. I am now
seeking comments from women who coach hockey (either head or assistant
coaches) for teams (girls, boys, adults, whatever.) I am looking for colorful
comments or stories regarding these unique experiences. Also - has anyone
been rejected from coaching because of their gender? Any comments on women
coaching in general are also appreciated, regardless of your approval or
disapproval.

This information will be used for an article which may, or may not be
published. I have yet to see an informative article on women hockey coaches.

I see a point in the headers because sure you can filter them out and
everything, if you have the time to figure that out. But lately I've been
getting junk mail with the word hockey in the title or e-mail address, so its
become even more difficult to figure out whats not junk.

From: Heidi Kay
Subject: Clipart and/or girl's hockey t-shirt

Hello there. I am new to the list. My name is Heidi Kay. I am the proud
mom in a hockey family. My daughter, age 5 plays in mini-mites now, and
would be ready for mites, but we are holding her back until she grows a
little. She's petite, and the idea of her being out there with 8 year olds
scares me a bit. Even if daddy is her coach.

We were quite fortunate that Rachel recently got to participate in a clinic
with Cammi Granato. What a great opportunity.

Anyway, what I was wondering was does anyone have any clipart of women or
girls in hockey? Ideally I would like an image of a girl/woman skaking in
full equipment with a ponytail hanging out the back of her helmet. My mom
does machine embroidery and would like to put an applique on a jacket for
my daughter. She can digitize practically any image. Line drawings in
color are best, but anything would be great. (gifs, jpegs, even a fax)

Also does anyone know where I can get a youth sized t-shirt (or an iron on
or any clothing)with a girls hockey slogan ("don't tell me what I cant do",
"girls rule", etc)

Thank you in advance
Heidi Kay

Subject: WIH Tendonitis

Ok, I have yet another injury, nothing new. I have
tendonitis in my right thumb. I had it a few months
ago during soccer, and then it stopped hurting, and
all it did was crack (like cracking your knuckles).
Now the pain is back. I was wondering if anyone knew
what the best thing to do for it is. I dont plan on
going to the doctors anytime soon. (my parents dont
take me therefor anything) So if anyone has any tips,
Ill gladly try them!!!
