FIVE-GOAL FIRST PERIOD GETS GOPHERS ROLLING IN 10-1 WIN

MANKATO, Minn.-Kris Scholz scored the game's first two goals and Minnesota
scored three times during a 29-second span in the first period en route to
a 10-1 win over Minnesota State, Mankato at the Midwest Wireless Center.

Scholz's second goal kicked off the Gophers first period spurt. Ambria
Thomas, who tallied a career-high four assists in the game, scored 14
seconds after Scholz and Tracy Donaghue capped the spree at 7:24.

Thomas had four of her five points in the opening period as she set up both
goals by Scholz and also set up Tracy Engstrom. Her fifth point came on a
pass to Brittny Ralph, who closed out the game's scoring with 1:44 to play
in the third period.

Shannon Kennedy also added a pair of goals for Minnesota, 23-2-2, while
Michelle Sikich scored on the power play for Minnesota State, 10-13-0,
which ended a streak of 10 games and 36 power plays in which the Gophers
had not allowed a goal.

Minnesota had a 49-14 advantage in shots on goal. Erica Killewald had 13
saves for the Gophers while Melissa Jackson and Jenny Padget combined for
39 for the Mavericks.

In the March/April edition of Women's Sports and Fitness Magazine there is an
awesome photo of 6 of the women from team USA by Annie Liebovitz. It is
totally worth the price of the magazine to get this photo, a two page spread
with the women looking nice and gnarly with duck tape and sweat showing....Not
a fashion spread! Just as I was about to cancel the magazine because they have
become just another fitness magazine rather than sports they have won me over
again. ( If you can't find a copy where you are you could e mail me and we
could work something out, it is usually available in abundance around
here.newstand price is $2.50.) There are also photos of other women atheletes
that are just wonderful.

Just thought you might like to know.

Also have you all voted for your favorite Wheaties cover? I don't even eat
Wheaties but I bought a box with the voting thing on it just to be able to
vote for Team USA..I guess I am a sap for that kind of advertizing...But I do
want to support companies that support women's sports. There is also a Car ad
in the March Good Housekeeping with a great photo of Cammi Granato. Too bad I
can't support that ad campaign, really could use a new car. :) Just so it has
room for hockey gear for myself and the three kids.....But that won't happen
in this millenium! (a new car that is!)

I would put a definite second onto Laura's remarks. I pulled out this
photo and taped up the middle split, then pinned it up on the hockey
bulletin board of the club where we are trying to recruit some new players
for our 19 and under women's team. During our annual hockey tournament
this past weekend I also noted that it also got a lot of attention from the
prepubescent and adolescent boys. Very effective photo, with a
superimposed quote from, of all people, Susan Sarandon: "The only thing I
love more than hockey is women's hockey"
That may reflect some sentiment from folks on this list. This is
definitely a 'you gotta see it to understand it' thing. I don't know
whether it is yet available for viewing anywhere on the Web but hopefully
it will eventually be up for inspection. Otherwise, it is definitely worth
the price of the print mag.

I, too saw the photo of the 6 women from team USA in the Women's Sports and
Fitness Magazine
and was glad to see it there among so many other great women athletes!

However, I was wondering if maybe the duct tape was to cover up brand
names? I liked the
gnarly look, but I noticed that the duct tape was placed strategically on
gloves, skates, etc. to cover
where brand names would be....

What rules disallow brand names to show in such photographs?

I have not seen the photo, but the duct tape ( or hockey tape) is definitely
used to cover up the brand names.

Last year, Nike made a video of our team, and they spent at least 1/2 hour
before the shoot covering up anything on us that was not Nike or Bauer.
(Incidentally - the video can still be seen in some Niketown stores and
outlets.)

Also - just take a look at the famed Wheaties box. Notice their jersyes are
missing hte Nike swoosh. On the back of the box (has anybody even looked at
the back?) Cammi's stick and gloves are sans-logo, as well as Sarah Teuting's
pads & gloves.

I'm not sure of the rules, but I can't blame Nike for not wanting to have
Easton or Louisville plastered all over Nike's ad campaign!

Hi,
We're still looking for teams for the tournament and I'm just sending a
reminder. If you are interested please let me know.
Thanks

Fridayâs, womenâs hockey team from the South Shore Women's hockey
league in Massachusetts would once again like to invite you to the
ãJust Havinâ Fun #4ä tournament. This tournament is being held in
Monsey, NY at the Sport-O-Rama rinks.

This year we are going to have 2 divisions, B and C. We are once again
trying to get 6-8 teams in each division. Last year there were 6 teams
in each division. Teams that have participated are Chesapeake Bay
Lightning, NJ Selects, NJ Bandits, Brooklyn Blades, Hickory Hill,
Stoneham Unicorns, Hudson River Waves, Storm, Pelham Pelicans,
Springfield, Westchester Wildcats, Chelsea Comets, Ravens, Nighthawks
and ourselves. Itâs a blast and the competition is great.

SO,
You are invited to participate in the "Just Havin' Fun #3" Women's Ice
Hockey Tournament, May 14-16th in Monsey, NY. There will be two
divisions and each team will be guaranteed three games. The games will
start on Friday evening, with championship games on Sunday. The
tournament fee will be $565 per team. There are two hotels nearby. I
do not have the rate information as of yet but will get it soon.

This is a fun, informal tournament. We do require that all teams and
players be registered USA Hockey and all players be rostered with the
team they are playing for. It is a "B" and "C" level tourney.

If you are interested in participating please call or email me as soon
as possible. I will require a $100 deposit by February 28th, and full
payment by April 1st. If you have any questions please call.

Thanks

Not rules, contracts. If brand X sponsors a team, but some players
prefer to use brand Y's equipment, brand X is not going to allow
brand Y's logos to appear in advertising or publicity items.
Team Canada (Canadian Hockey) lets me show pictures of their
players on my website, but I have agreed to respect their sponsors.
I'm not going to post ads from CCM on my site while Bauer/Nike is
their sponsor.

Like everything else that becomes popular, and we see it more and
more in women's hockey, the almighty dollar rules what we are
allowed to see.
