        McGill posts back-to-back 0-0 ties

On the heals of Saturday's surprising 0-0 draw against defending
CIAU Champion Concordia, the McGill Martlets repeated that feat
Wednesday, deadlocking College St. Laurent 0-0 in Quebec University
Women's Hockey League action.

It's the third consecutive game that the Martlets have tied. A week
ago, McGill and Middlebury College skated to a 1-1 draw.

Kim St. Pierre kicked aside 30 shots in the Martlet net, while
Emmanuelle Cabana stopped 35 shots for the Patriotes, including 18 in
the third period.

McGill is 3-1-2 in their last six league games and 6-4-3 in the six
team loop.

The Martlets regular season concludes Friday at John Abbott
College. It's a 6:00 p.m. start. On Saturday, McGill travels to
University of New Hampshire for an exhibition game.

Kurt:

The McGill University women's hockey club updates its webpage daily
to reflect up-to-date information.
This is necessary to keep a following and promote our program,
league and women's hockey.
I agree with you, however, many Canadian schools aren't updating
their pages and the CIAU site (women's hockey stats/scores page) is a
joke. (no updates or weeks go by without updating it.)
Maybe an e-mail to these schools and the CIAU would help. (I have
already e-mailed, earlier this season, to the CIAU to express my
displeasure and disappointment.)
At McGill, we have enjoyed a solid season and we are serious about
our women's hockey program. Our webpage (www.zoo.net/hockey) has been a
tremendous asset to the promotion of our program.
The McGill Martlets are also regular contributors to the
women-in-hockey list, Info-Hockey-L List (U.S. College list), Hipcheck
Magazine and several other publications.
Kurt......Follow the McGill Martlets and you will never be in the

I am not familiar with this particular radio staion but it sounds like it
is par for the course with regards to ALL radio staions. Atleast the ones
in the Los Angeles area.

BUT...It does sound like this guy might being doing more than normal.
He actually went to Florida to cover a female sport!

If this is the case, even though he may not be doing as much as there
should be, there has to be a start.

He may be an ally rather than an enemy.

Does anyone know of any co-ed mixed level pick-up games that happen
regularly in the greater Boston area. I play in a women's league, but I
have a couple of friends (who happen to be men) who would like to play
occassional pickup. One is pretty good, the other is more of a
beginner. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

There was a young lady (goalie) who played AAA. Are you still out here?

Good News . . . Bad News. Our goalie on the Bantam Team in Montreal, may be
unavailable to participate in the Canadian Cup Tournament. Therefore, we are
searching for a possible replacement. If you know someone with a 83-84 birth

"Thought some of you might be interested in the following exchange I have
been having with Bill Littlefield, host of the radio program "Only a Game".
What do you think? Am I way off base? Do I sound like a crazed feminist?"

Well, you have to remember that these programs exist not to entertain and
inform their listeners but to generate ratings that allows the stations to
sell 30 second slots for big advertising dollars. (How else do you explain
Howard Stern) So you're involved in a viscous circle. Perceived low public
interest in a sport generates little publicity which contributes to
perceived low public interest and so on along the spiral.

The way to change the amount of coverage is for people to call in and write
in to demonstrate public interest. Then you have to compete with the
interest demonstrated in the NFL/NHL/NBA etc and will see coverage hours
more or less based on the ratio of demonstrated interest.

Lots of sports exist out there. I don't hear the show so I don't know the
answer to this. What's the comparison to the coverage curling gets? Or
lacrosse? Or the CFL?

"But I guess to me it sounds like people who speak highly of a father
because he has changed diapers or done dishes a time or two. That's great,
but why not make it a regular thing, so that it is longer a special thing to
see a man helping with such chores. "

This sounds like an unfair shot.....

Just a quick comment...

Actually, since Only A Game is on NPR (National Public Radio) it does
NOT exist to generate ratings and sell advertising slots...

> The way to change the amount of coverage is for people to call in

However, this is absolutely true - even when the almighty dollar (be
it US or Canadian!) is not the object, _listenership_ is - so if more
listeners tell Bill Littlefield that they want women's and girls'
sports, then he just might cover those sports more. If no one says
they want this coverage, then Bill's not totally to blame for not
seeing that there is an audience for it.

(oh, and P.S., the show originates out of Boston (WBUR I think) where
there are plenty of US, and frequently Canadian, women Olympians
living/playing.)
