AEROS USE SEVEN-GOAL THIRD PERIOD TO ROUT GOPHERS

DURHAM, N.H.-Minnesota skated with the senior AAA Beatrice Aeros for two
periods but the defending Ontario provincial champions, featurning seven
national team members, scored seven times in the final 20 minutes and
snapped the Gophers 19-game unbeaten streak with a 9-0 win.

Despite taking a penalty at 4:54 of the opening period, the Aeros outshot
Minnesota 3-0 during the power play and got on the board at 6:37 when Becky
Kellar's pass split the Gopher defense and Cindy Cryderman scored on a
breakaway.

Amy Turek gave the Aeros at 2-0 lead with 1:23 to play in the opening
period and the scored stayed that way through an evenly-played second
period.

The Aeros, 31-3-2, took charge early in the third, getting two goals on
nine shots in the opening 3:49 to take a 4-0 lead which brought a goalie
change for Minnesota as Crystal Nicholas replaced Erica Killewald.

Nicholas received little help as she faced 13 shots in 16 minutes and
allowed five goals while making eight saves. Killewald finished with 25
saves on 29 shots as Minnesota was outshot 42-23.

The Gophers, 18-2-2, return home for their third three-game weekend in four
weeks as they host Cornell, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., and Minnesota
State, Mankato, Sunday at 3 p.m., this weekend.
