GOPHERS AND BULLDOGS TO PLAY FOR NORTHERN STAR TROPHY THIS WEEKEND

The rivalry begins this weekend when fifth-ranked Minnesota hosts
seventh-ranked Minnesota-Duluth, in the first game of a two-game series,
Friday at 7:05 p.m., at Mariucci Arena.

The two teams will be squaring off for the Northern Star trophy, the gift of
Lorie Gildea, a loyal women's hockey fan of both institutions.

Gildea will present the trophy to the first winner of the Northern Star. The
trophy will go to the winning team each game and will stay with the
victorious team as a travelling trophy.

I ordered the CCM tacks for women. They are great, but take a while to break
in. Bauer is supposed to make a model called Bauer Suprieme 1000W. I haven't
been able to find any stores with them yet but supposedly they are cut
differently to fit womens's calf muscles better and they are a B-width for
those of us with skiny feet. CCM also has 2 versions of the tacks available
in women's styles. I believe they are the 652 and the 852. The 852's are the
ones I have. It took a while to get used to them but I love them now. At
first it is hard to get used to the narrower fit, but I have more control in
my turns. Also hard to go from Bauers to CCM's and break in new skates while
playing college hockey. Don't try to break in new skates in the middle of a
season.

Hope this helps.

oh, ok. i didn't know there was any difference between
men's and women's - except for women's not being wide
enough. well, i'm guessing that all the in-lines they
had here are men's. (i'd expect womens' to look like
womens' shoes: pink and purple with flowers, heh,
that's why i wear mens' shoes instead.) i sat here
poking my legs yesterday thinking it was just too fat
above the ankle or i was deformed. lol. yes, i can
tell that my muscle starts right above the ankle. i
didn't know that there was a big difference like that.
but i got the nike skates. i like these because the
back is open around the ankle, that way there's no
pressure on my ankle or muscles. and i think they're
very comfortable.

Since the discussion has turned to women's skates...I am not sure if this is the place to post this but I have a brand new pair of Bauer Women's skates for sale from last season, the Bauer Supreme 5000's, never worn, never sharpened. They are too big for me. They are a size 7 (which means regular shoe size around 8 1/2). If anyone is interested in purchasing them, please e-mail me privately at email@hidden.

Thanks,
      Diane

This is why it is so important to buy your skates from a shop that knows what
they are doing. They have to be knowledgeable in how to make sure your
skates will fit. They should be asking you a million questions, sticking
their fingers in your skates, make you stand up, sit down, walk around, roll
over and play dead. And ask you a million more questions. Even though
there may be something "uncomfortable" about the skates at first, by asking
you the RIGHT questions, they can determine if it is normal, and will go away
after they break in, or if the skates are not meant for your feet. Rule of
thumb - If they are TOO comfortable at first, they are probably too big!

To me, it is worth paying a little more for the skates and making sure that
they fit properly, than getting a discount on a pair that will cause me pain
& aggravation later on.

Your feet are very important. If your feet are miserable, you will be too.
