Subject: 10 & Under Teams

[Waukesha County Youth Hockey Association (WCYHA) is looking
for 10 & under
teams! Although not a USA Hockey age designation, we are lucky to have the
numbers to skate a 10 & under team - possibly 2 teams! I know that
Minnesota has some tournaments for this age classification and Canada also
has teams in this age group.]

[The above was stated in a prior e-mail post. I would like to correct that
USA Hockey does have the 10 and under age classification for girls
nationwide. It was added in the 1998-99 season to try to increase teams at
the grassroots level. Minnesota does have girls teams at this level and
that number should continue to increase in the coming years as more girls
begin to participate at the younger levels. We are proud of our growth in
Minnesota at both the youngest and oldest levels of girls/women's hockey and
it appears that it will continue. I will provide some numbers after the
next Minnesota Hockey (formerly known as Minnesota Amateur Hockey
Association - MAHA) annual meeting coming up next weekend in Alexandria,
Minnesota. Hopefully, the USA Hockey Registrar for the Minnkota District
will have updated numbers for the 1998-99 season. ]

I did not know this.  I thought that the added age classifications and aligning birthdates with boys was "tabled" for the umpteenth consecutive year at the USA Hockey Annual Meeting.  This is good news.

Guess I better get a 98-99 rule book before the 99-00 season starts!

BTW, you should be proud of girls hockey in Minnesota.  We will be adding a second 10 & Under team, so we're trying to keep up!

Are they just behind in updating the site?

Brookfield, WI  USA ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Apr 1999 10:13:03 +0000 From: email@hidden (Danielle Dufour) Subject: CHA NEWS Release CANADIAN HOCKEY ASSOCIATION CANADIENNE DE HOCKEY NEWS RELEASE / COMMUNIQUE April 19, 1999 NR051.99 DAVIDSON NAMED HEAD COACH OF 2000 NATIONAL WOMEN'S TEAM; HEALY APPOINTED HEAD COACH OF UNDER-22 WOMEN'S TEAM CALGARY, AB -- Melody Davidson, of Calgary AB, has been named head coach of Canada's National Women's Hockey Team for the 1999-2000 season, and Julie Healy, of Verdun QC, has been named head coach of the National Women's Under 22 Team, Canadian Hockey Association vice-president, hockey Tom Renney announced Monday. Davidson, 35, was the head coach of the National Under-22 Women's Team in 1998-99 which won the gold medal at the Christmas Cup in Unna, Germany in 1998. Davidson is also the women's hockey coach at Connecticut College. "This is quite an honor for me," said Davidson. "My experience with the National Under 22 Team and previous National teams has prepared me for this challenge. I now look forward to working with the National Women's Team, especially given the fact that the World Championship is in Canada next year." Davidson replaces Daniele Sauvageau, the National Women's Team head coach in 1998-99, who has been asked to take on a supporting role with the Women's High Performance program. Sauvageau, a leading candidate to coach Canada's entry in the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, has been asked to give technical support to both National Teams in the coming year as well as assisting the General Manager of Female High Performance, Gaetan Robitaille, with player identification and evaluation. The CHA plans to announce the 2002 Olympic coaching staff in May, 2000. "The key to our high performance success has been providing Canadian coaches with the opportunity to apply their skills in high performance competition," said Tom Renney, Vice-president, Hockey at the Canadian Hockey Association. "Knowing Daniele can do this allows us the ability to give another coach the same opportunity. Based on her performance with the Canadian Women's Team last year, Daniele has set a standard for others to match which bodes well for her in the future." Renney also named the assistant coaches for the National Women's Team: Karen Hughes, an assistant coach with the National Women's Team in 1998-99 and Wally Kozak, coach with the Oval X-treme of Calgary, finalists at the 1999 Esso National Women's hockey championship. Hughes is also head coach of the University of Toronto's women's hockey team. Ken Dufton, an assistant coach with the National Women's Team in 1998-99, has also been asked continue in a support role in the High Performance program, assisting in player evaluation. The coaches will conduct an evaluation camp for the National Women's Team this fall and get together for a pre-competition camp and tournament in early 2000 in preparation for the sixth Women's World Championship in Mississauga, ON in April 2000. Renney also announced that Julie Healy, head coach of Equipe Quebec, champions at the 1999 Esso National Women's Hockey Championship, has been named as head coach of the National Women's Under 22 Team. Healy, 41, was an assistant coach with the National Under-22 Team in 1998-99 and is currently an assistant coach of the women's hockey team at Concordia University. "I'm looking forward to the challenges of the next year with the Under-22 team," said Julie Healy. "I have really enjoyed my involvement with the CHA's Women's High Performance Program since 1995, and see this as a very important step in my development as a coach." Healy's assistant coaches will be Nancy Wilson, who was the head coach of the British Columbia women's hockey team at the 1999 Canada Winter Games and Bill Bowker, head coach of Ontario's gold medal-winning women's team at the 1999 Canada Winter Games. The Under-22 team will hold a NIKE High Performance camp this summer. "These are all outstanding coaches who we expect to enhance our female high performance programs tremendously," said Renney. "All have been involved with the Canadian Hockey Association, in different ways, for several years." - -30- For More Information: Andre Brin Brad Pascall Manager, Communications Director, Communications/ Membership services Canadian Hockey Association Canadian Hockey Association 403-777-3609 403-777-4556 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Apr 1999 15:00:45 -0400 From: Chris Gilbert Subject: fundraising planning I know the last thing you want to hear about this time of year is FUNDRAISING. I tried writing to the magazine to first of all, find out if this info was right, and then see if they could send me a copy and maybe correct it in the next issue. Could someone who gets the magazine, if you have a chance, check to see if there was an article recently about Florida hockey (or something like that)- I'd be the goalie in the Panthers uniform with the teal/wolf looking helmet and the black pads. Thanks so much! Amy #34 Gold Coast Panthers 1999 SE District Champs ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Apr 1999 00:11:33 EDT From: email@hidden Subject: WIH - First Goal! Hey everyone, I just had to mention that I scored my first ice hockey goal on Sunday, plus an assist. It was only the 2nd game that I played offense in, and I also got an assist. I've only scored 1 goal in roller hockey in 3 years, so this goals pretty big for me. Unfortunately after a 5-1 lead, our team let down a little, and the other team caught up to us, but we ended up with a 6-6 tie, so at least it's a point. And my first ice hockey point happened to be the same day Gretzky got his last NHL point, which is kinda cool. Sorry, I just had to brag a little, but hey everyone has to brag at some point, right? Jennie # 5 (still rather be #29) but hey at least my pointless streak of 36 games (including ice and roller hockey, of those 14 were on the ice) finally ends. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Apr 1999 07:55:51 -0400 From: K Braun Subject: First Goal Jennie wrote she got her first goal and an assist last Sunday. Way to go Jennie!! You have every right to brag. It's important and a great confidence booster. Now you have to brag about that first hat trick! Maybe #5 is your number. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Apr 1999 15:24:25 -0400 (EDT) From: bill driscoll Subject: empire games Have locations and schedules been announced for regional women's ice hockey tryouts for the Summer Empire Games?
