If you want to try an independent bookstore, one *great* store in my area
has a web site-- www.keplers.com -- and I believe you can order books
from the site.

I've never ordered from the web site, but the store itself is quite
wonderful.

Please don't laugh at me for this, but I am looking for 2 tickets for
Sunday's Ranger game.

I will to go over face value for the tix, but within REASON. (If anybody is
going to tell me about the $1500 tix for nosebleed section, forget it!)

Please reply to me privately, not the list.

Thanks.

Subject: wih - the coach.... survey says...........

OK here is the tally of the barrage of emails I received on my previous
posting. (And thanks to everybody who responded - even those of you who I
did not agree with!)

1) It is unanimous!! 40 lashes with a wet noodle, and 100 push ups for me
for forgetting my gear. (but, even though this was a bonehead thing to do,
there was quite a bit of support from the s--- happens camp.)

2) pretty much 50-50 as to whether or not I should have gone to my coach for
help with this.

3) 60-40 coaches initial reaction - coach was wrong for his "what do you want
me to do about it?" the extra 10 % coems form thsoe who initially said that
I shoudl not have gone to him, but since I did, and the "damage" was done, he
did react poorly.

3) Unanimous - coach was totally out of line for blowing up at me later on
the bench. (Except for one 15 year old who has been playing for almost 10
years, seemed to think that being yelled & cursed at by a coach was
appropriate. She thought that I was overreacting, and did not even see a
problem!!)

On that note, I have a friend in MN (hockey capital of the US, as far as I am
concerned) - who has been playing for 15 years, and even went to the
Nationals on the senior A level - even agreed that the coach was out of
line. But, being a good friend, she also blasted me for forgetting my gear.
And said that the sarcastic "thanks, coach" as I was wlking out of the rink
to stowe my gear in the car was out of line. I agree 99% there. :-)

4) One kind soul even suggested that I "act my age" and use a speel check on
my emails. Thanks. That was a really constructive comment! (geez - how
many time to I have to say this - it is not my spelling that is bad - it is
my TYPING!!" :-) Thanks, but as long as it is not even close to being
incoherent, stop being such a nitpicker!

I sent an email to teh coach, (on Monday) slightly apologetic, wihtout going
into details, yet also letting him know that regardles of what happened
before, yelling & cursing at me was out of line. I did offer an "olive
branch" and say that I would liek to resovle this issue. When woudl be a
good time to call you? I also said that if he truly wants me off the team,
to pelase let me know ASAP (and send me a refund check), so that I can make
arrangements to play on another team in this league before it is too late.
(But I did mention that was NOT the resolution I was looking for!)

Well, he has not responded to that email. (I know he read it because we are
both on AOL, and AOL allows you to check when mail was read by other
useers.) I did not receive a refund check eitehr, so as far as I am
concerned, I am still on teh team.

In addition, he sahres an apartment with a player on the team. I spoke with
her today on another topic, adn casually mentioned the incident. I asked her
if the coach had mentioned anything baout it. Well, she did nto even hear
what happened on the bench (even though she was playing in that game. I clued
her in briefly. But the fact that he did not even mention it gives me an
idea of how he is goign to deal with this. Someon on the wih list
mentioned that he does nto handle conflict well. Thsi si a known fact
amongst all memebers of the team. I'm willing to go out on a limb, and say
that he is probably goign to try to just let this "blow over." Or, as he
said to another player earluer in the season with whom there was a conflict -
"That is jsut water under the bridge." Well, he must know that he cannot
treat people like that. He will nto get away with it forever. Not cool.

We have a game on Sunday. My plan is to go into the game, but not speak to
him, unless spoken to. And then it will be "yes coach." Just play as hard
as I can. Then when the game is over, try to talk to him again. I'll let ya
know how it works out.

Well, that about wraps it up. For now....
